Surviving a (Katy) Cat-Fight

The feud between Taylor Swift and Katy Perry rages on…

Surviving a (Katy) Cat-Fight

Girls… you’d think we’d learn! We laugh, we love, we fight, we cry, and if we’re lucky, we get over it and rebuild.

Sometimes the issues run deeper than the petty stuff, but when it comes to good old fashioned cat-fights, you can be sure there will be both pointless drama and uncharacteristic roller coaster  emotions involved. If the foundation of the friendship is strong enough, girls can usually come out of cat-fights stronger than ever. After all, if you survive a storm (or even a tiny hurricane), you’re probably ready to endure a tsunami in one of those emergency situations. Unfortunately, not all friendships can weather the storms, and Tswift and Katy Perry are no exception.

If my long hours on the clock watching True Hollywood Stories and Entertainment Tonight have taught me anything at all, it’s that no one can bring the drama quite like a young A-list celeb. If you’re having a bad day, seriously just flip on the E! network. I know it seems like your life sucks, but Kim Kardashian made the conscious decision to get Botox at age 30 so you’re probably doing O.K. Oh, and shout out to that perfectly timed E! News broadcast about Solange going ape in that elevator. I broke a toe in kickboxing that morning but I realized that I could have been Jay Z that day and it really put things in perspective.

I’m almost shocked that we’re not desensitized to drama at this point in our development, but I guess some things are timeless like black dresses and Bruce Jenner’s face, so here we are again in the midst of a celeb feud and this time, the drama is between two of my favorite ladies, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.  The fight began when Swift gave an interview for Rolling Stone Magazine and commented on her new song “Bad Blood.” The song is said to be about another girl in Hollywood who Swift has never gotten along with, and it was soon clear who she was referring to.

Swift described this girl as a “straight up enemy,” and proceeded to put the fight in context when she explained “it had to do with business… she tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me.” Though there was high speculation, it wasn’t completely clear who her comment was referring to until Perry decided to weigh in via twitter. “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing,” Perry warned her loyal Kitty Kats. Meow!

This thing clearly got nasty, but I can’t see how these two pop sweethearts can just let this pass without addressing one another head on. The issue might not really get solved, but these two are public figures with respective fans who look to them for inspiration. Given the information we know, I’m not really sure who is at fault. I do know, however, that Taylor Swift’s track record with forgiveness isn’t exactly perfect (you probably don’t want to cross this betch), but I still hope she can pull it together for the sake of public image. At some point we all must learn that it’s better to play nice and keep the more destructive thoughts private… I mean that’s just like the rules of feminism!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
