The Super Bowl, the biggest football game in the NFL and practically an American holiday, reels in millions of views every year. A record 112.2 million people watched the Super Bowl last year.
It’s hard to say what I look forward to the most; if the Giants make it, then its split up pretty equally between the game, the commercials, and the halftime show, but if they are not in the game it's 50/50 between the halftime show and the commercials. This year the halftime show will be Coldplay. I was seriously surprised because I was almost positive Taylor Swift would finally have a chance, but this should be a nice break from the popstars in the past years.
Coldplay just released a new album “A Head of Full Dreams," which we may hear a little of at the Super Bowl, but I’m sure we can expect to hear a lot of their popular songs as well like Viva La Vida, Fix You, Paradise, and The Scientist. It will be interesting to see if the band will bring up other acts to perform with them. In the past Katy Perry had Missy Elliot and Lenny Kravitz join her, Bruno Mars had the Red Hot Chili Peppers appear on the stage with him, Beyonce asked her sisters to join her, Madonna had many guests on stage with her such as LMFAO, M.I.A, Niki Minaj, and Cee Lo Green, and the Black Eye Peas performed with Slash and Usher. Maybe Coldplay will ask Rihanna to make a guest appearance for their song Princess of China.
I think Coldplay is a nice change. I know I am excited to watch the show at halftime and to see which songs they perform. Although they aren’t what many think of when they imagine pump-up music I believe that they will bring an interesting vibe to the stadium as well as the millions of Super Bowl parties across America.
