It's freshman year and your sorority sisters are going on the annual trip to the beach. It'll require hours of monotonous driving, less sleep than you would've gotten at home, awful sunburn, lots and lots of peanut butter, and totally unexpected obstacles (car stuck in the sand anyone?). But you'll make memories to last a lifetime.
First of all, you will arrive at the house greeted by pizza and smiles and laughter and Hillary Duff on full blast. Your best friends will want to know every detail of your road trip, especially the part when you stopped the car in the middle of traffic to pick flowers.
You'll wake up the next morning with a smile and huge expectations of getting beautifully bronzed skin (only later to receive a second-degree burn). Most of your sisters will still be asleep, but you watch the sun slowly rise over the horizon and reflect off the smooth waves: up and down, up and down.
Maybe for dinner, 25 of you will decide to go to a place that serves the best rolls-- which they throw at their customers, obviously (trust me, it's amazing). And then, all of you will go home and stuff your faces with ice cream and watch Aquamarine. Wanna go to the fraternity party down the street? Nah, me neither. You'll probably fall asleep around 12-- earlier than a school night... what is life.
One day, your entire pledge class decides to drive to Seaside (because 13 hours in the car wasn't enough bonding time already). You instantly fall in love and beg your parents to buy the house for sale right next to downtown: "Dad it's only $2 million! I mean, it's either this or that castle I've been wanting since I was five." But you really do admire the quaint shops and atmosphere. White picket fences surround sandy sidewalks and ice cream is first on the food pyramid. You may walk on the beach and feel the sand squish between your toes, or watch the blue waves slowly sigh on the shore.
However one thing is for sure: you will forget about school. Your mind will be at peace as you watch the burning sunset glow with purple and orange and yellow. The bonds you make with your sisters are irreplaceable; you will share sunburn and aloe and food and dish duty. And when you stop for lunch on the trip back, you will eat at Popeye's-- because when your car travels over 600 miles, you're basically covering the same distance right?...You're going to need some nourishment.
Lastly, your Instagram feed will be filled with ocean puns:
"{Shore} was a good time with this gal."
"I love you more than the number of grains of sand on the beach" (yeah totally messed that one up).
"{Wave}ing goodbye to the best spring break ever."
And one of my favorites:
"With friends like these, who needs anemones?" *shoutout to my galpal Kaytlen*
The puns might get old (probably not), but you'll make memories to last a lifetime... even if the craziest thing you did all week was prank-call your guy friends. I hope your spring break was one for the books and you hash-tagged every picture with #DOITFORTHEMEMS.
Adios y'all.
