David A. Bednar – The parable of the ten Virgins. We need to be ready.
These phrases should be the cause of deep personal introspection
- Ye never knew me
- Ye know me not
4 steps to helping us come to know Him
- Exercising faith in Him
- Following Him
- Serving Him
- Believing Him
We should pray to the father in Christ's name and utilize the power of the Holy Ghost. Lehi’s dream. We are never left alone as we work in His vineyard. We want to become so aligned/delighted with Him that his purposes become our purposes. We want to be like Him and see Him as He is. We come to the Lord as we are filled with his love. We come to know the Lord as we not only believe in Him but believe Him and His assurances. Do we believe what we know? We give away ask our sins to know Him. We must believe with our whole soul-we submit everything to him and do what is a priority to Him. We can know the Lord as we know about Him.
Brian K. Ashton – The doctrine of Christ is the only way can obtain eternal life. Being born again is more of a process than it is an event.
The principles and ordinances of Christ's gospel are:
1) Faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement
2) Repentance
3) Baptism and the Sacrament
4) The Gift of the Holy Ghost
5) Enduring to the End
Repentance causes us to be true followers of Christ. Through repentance, we become submissive to God's will. Repentance is really about becoming like the Savior and we do this through Christ’s grace. We must participate in baptism and the Sacrament. We covenant to keep the commandments of the Father and the son. The Holy Ghost gives us additional power and strength. We will have no more disposition to do evil. We change as we do what we are supposed to do. We receive grace for grace until we are perfect. We must apply the doctrine of Christ in our lives because it is the only way to return to our Heavenly Father. How can we apply this more fully in our lives? We must prepare for the sacrament.
Carl B. Cook – We are all part of a compound gear. Service isn't something we endure in this life to get through to the next, service is the very center of becoming an exalted being. All church callings come from God. We are in His service when we are in a calling. We should love our assignments in the church. We will become true servants of Jesus Christ. We should accept assignments even when we think we aren't qualified--we will be blessed and we will learn. Fulfilling your calling is an act of faith. Whether you're bored to death or scared to death in your calling--it is called of God. We must put our shoulder to the wheel. We are all in this great endeavor together. Every calling is important. Ask how can I help? and where would the Lord have me serve? Jesus volunteered to do the greatest calling and He literally became a servant to us all. He is there to help us in our efforts and callings. We must magnify our callings week in and week out.
Song: High On A Mountain Top
Ronald A. Rasband – Heavenly Father, are you really there? We are sons and daughters a loving Father in Heaven. Jesus Christ gave his life got us. His sacrifice was the ultimate expression of his love for us. The gulf of misery and endless woe is not a place we ever want to be. Remember the spiritual foundations you have built. We must first strengthen ourselves spiritually and then strengthen others. “But to be learned is good if they hearken unto the counsels of God.” We should go that which is good. Our Heavenly Father won't let us down. He will help us know what we need to do. We should never forget our sacred eternal truths. We are sons and daughters of living eternal parents.
Evan A. Schmutz – If we suffer for righteousness sake, then happy are we. Why do bad things happen to good people? The great plan of our Father in Heaven really is the eternal plan of happiness. If we are sorrowful we should call on the Lord. Our faith in Jesus Christ makes all things bearable. Our Lord hears our prayers and always has a reason for our afflictions. He will help us bear it. Our capacity to ensure grows as we labor through our tribulations. We can learn from and feel compression for the sufferings of others. Living a life pleasing to the Lord will not stop our trials from coming. But it will help us get through them. Jesus Christ can and will bind up our broken hearts. Do not compare your trials with others trials. We must deliberately become involved in the process of learning from our afflictions. If we exercise strong and abiding faith in Christ will be able to get through our trials and will be comforted as our faith in Christ increases. There really is light at the end of the tunnel. It is the light of Christ after our trials and tribulations are finished. God, our Father, and his son, Jesus Christ, live and they want us to partake of the Savior's Atonement and return back to them.
K. Brett Nattress – Reading the Book of Mormon is so important. If read it every day (to our children) we will not lose them. Motherhood is close to divinity. The Book of Mormon is the true word of Christ. We love Christ because He loved us first. His love for us is immeasurable. Because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ no matter what can always have hope in him who was mighty to save. We have hope and faith and promises through Him. The gospel truly is about the One. It is about
- One Savior
- One lost sheep
- One prodigal son
- One Samaritan woman at the well
- One boy who claims he isn't listening
We must devote our hearts and hands to Heavenly Father's plan.
Song: I'll Follow Him In Faith
Dale G. Renlund – Firecracker in the Sacrament hall. We must confess and forsake our sins. Joy is one of the inherent results of repentance. "Vend om" in Swedish means to turn around. We must change our behavior and return to the right road, but that's only a part of repentance. Our heart must change and we must turn away from sin and towards the Lord. Real repentance involves faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance should not be merely miserable behavior rehabilitation. We need faith to have true saving repentance. Boyd K. Packer: “The Atonement leaves no tracks, no traces. It simply fixes what needs to be fixed and heals--there are no scars.” Repentance is a choice. Minimizing our mistakes is not a good idea. We should repent for our mistakes instead of rationalizing them. Real repentance requires recognizing the Savior's divinity and choosing Him.
“What win I, if I gain the thing I seek?
A dream, a breath, a froth is fleeting joy.
Who buys a minute's mirth to wail a week?
Our sells eternity to get a toy?
For one sweet grape who will the vine destroy?”
- William Shakespeare,
The Rape of Lucrece
We must follow our Savior. We must repent with real intent.
