Summertime or More Work?

Let's be honest, we all want a break but do we really get it?

Currently, we're all in the mindset of just being mentally drained. Finals are over and summer is just beginning. So why do we feel like we're doing nothing with our lives? Probably because at the moment, we aren't. Either you've just graduated and are hoping to start a full-time job sometime soon or you have a year or two left. But no matter what, you're ready to be done for awhile. You're ready to have some time to relax and just not worry about or do anything.

The season of going on adventures, laying out in the sun and being out on the water is upon us. Some people may think that going to college means taking the summer off. Unfortunately, we're all at the age where summer means more time to work. You can still go on all of the adventures you want and lay out in the sun, but having an income is becoming one of those things that you can't live without. All that means is you have to schedule all of your voluntary activities around your work schedule. It could be that you won't see the sun or have late nights with friends for days. Or you might see the sun every single day and just want to stay inside when you can.

Vacation might be put on the back burner, but going to the cabin or even the beach is enough to get away even for a day or two. Getting away for a short while can be rewarding, no matter where you might be. With this possibly being your last summer where you "have time" to take a vacation or to just lay around and do nothing, you have to take advantage of it. Being drained from finals will end soon, but the summer is going to fly by. Go on adventures while you can, take some time off when possible, and make the most of summertime.

Be a kid for one last time. Camp out, have bonfires and spend the night with friends. Times like these won't be around for much longer. Sometimes it is okay to put work on the back burner if it means that you'll be creating memories that last a lifetime.

I don't want to ramble on, but here goes nothing. Working every day will come soon enough, and sometimes jobs are difficult to avoid working weekends. But if there is any down time, take full advantage of it. Enjoy yourself. Do something you love and make memories. Summer won't last forever and neither will your time without "adult responsibilities." Have one last celebration before adulthood creeps up on you. I guess what I'm trying to say is work hard, but remember to relax when you're able to. Remember to adventure because adventure is out there, you just have to take the time to look for it or maybe even create it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
