Phase 1: Delirium
At the end of spring semester you may be repeatedly asking yourself, “Did I just finish finals? Someone please pinch me, because this can’t be real.” All of those hours spent in the library pulling all-nighters have paid off….right? It’s summer now, but doesn’t quite feel like it yet (or at least not until your final semester grades are posted next week.)
Phase 2: Excitement
With the anxiety of finals behind you, you finally get to see your friends from home. No more separation anxiety. It’s finally time to relax and you have so many things planned. Weekend beach trips, tanning, internships, stuffing your face with Ben & Jerry’s….the possibilities are endless.
Phase 3: Boredom
OK this may have been a great five weeks, but by this point you’ve already watched too much Netflix (which you didn’t think was possible during the semester because those hours devoted to Netflix were sacred), and your friends might have completely different schedules. You also find yourself starting to miss certain aspects of college, but you can’t really be craving Sodexo food, right?
Phase 4: Extreme Boredom
When does "Orange is The New Black" come back? You seriously can’t wait a whole another YEAR. Who does Jenji Kohan think she is? Now that you’ve binge-watched almost every TV show humanly possible (is there a Guinness Book of World Records title for that?), you should probably be productive. But instead you find yourself scrolling aimlessly through social media and wishing you were back at school.
Phase 5: Desperation
You absolutely cannot sit in this house any longer. It’s way too hot outside. You’ve eaten at your favorite diner five times already. You are so over your summer routine and so are your friends. Can it be the end of August yet? Hoodie weather actually sounds nice…
Phase 6: Somewhere Between Enthusiastic and Disappointed
It soon dawns on you that fall semester means no more Netflix marathons. No more boardwalk fries. No more Wawa. No more water ice. You can kiss your freedom goodbye, because it’s time to buckle down. It’s time to prepare for constant Blackboard reminders and various assignments. But on the positive side, you get to reunite with your college friends. You’ll actually have a social life again. And, most importantly, you know that you’ll make great memories this year.
