As the end of freshman year approaches, there are so many mixed emotions when it comes to leaving your first year of college. The exhaustion of finals has it's way of making it easy to want to escape school forever. The joy that comes with taking your last lukewarm dorm shower is like no other. But the friends that live only steps from your dorm room are what making leaving for the summer so hard. When I came to college my life existed in a ten mile radius from the place where I was born. College has broadened my perspective but made my world smaller because of the friendships I have made.
What is so great about freshman year? Everything. We came to college full of a lot of excitement and a little bit of fear-Scared of the unknown, sad from leaving high school friends, and worried about making new ones. But that all fades away as soon as you become inundated with new experiences, realize your friends live within steps of you, and know there is always something fun to do. It is true that college isn't all highlights, and there are some tough times that come along with it. But it is the good memories that we will treasure forever.
When summer seems sad it is only because you have had an exciting experience full of significant people to your life. Eight months may not seem like a lot of time, but it will change your life forever. However, summer is a time to appreciate it more and get excited for another year full of memories.
