Summer Reading Bucket List: 13 Must-Reads This Summer 2016
chronicallyvintage.com

When you think of summer, you probably think of fun, friends, lots of time in the sun, probably a summer job, and Netflix. Well, this summer I want it to be different. I have been a chronic bad reader. Now, it's not that I'm bad at reading words, but that I'm bad at finishing novels. I get halfway through the book I'm reading (and very interested in) and then all of the sudden I find another great book I want to read instead, so I read that one, never to finish the first one I intended to finish! Now, I probably have ADD to thank for this but nevertheless, this is a list of the books I will finish from cover to cover this summer. Oh, and yes some of these books are already half-way read, but this summer I'm dedicated to FINISHING them!

1. "Why Not Me?" - Mindy Kaling

This is Mindy's second book or memoir, and they are just the best books ever. I would recommend reading the first one too (it only took me an entire semester! That one is called, "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?.. And Other Concerns") Now, they obviously not the most intellectually stimulating reads you could choose but hey, that's half the fun right? It's fun, real, and by the end you'll feel like Mindy is your real-life BFF and you can walk up to her at any point and chat about the latest rom-com you watched while drinking an entire bottle of wine. Just me? Okay.

This is the book I have currently been reading, and I'm about 3/4 done with it!

(I pre-ordered it in August).

2. "The Sun Also Rises" - Ernest Hemingway

Okay so I may or may not have initially bought this book because Derek Shepard (Grey's Anatomy) mentioned that this was his favorite book. Dang, you caught me... that's exactly what happened! Regardless, I actually read the first chapter and I'm intrigued! I'm usually not one for deep reads, but Hemingway just has such a way with words, I have no doubt it will be spectacular!

3. "My Year With Elanor" - Noelle Hancock

This story is about a woman who decided to take Elanor Roosevelt's advice every day for a year, "Do one thing every day that scares you" and it seems pretty darn inspiring if you ask me!

4. "The Handmaid's Tale" - Margaret Atwood

I've heard this one is a classic and was on a good amount of online summer reading lists so here we go, I'll give it a go!

5. "Exit Here" - Jason Myers

So, of what I know about this book, it's not a happy ending but it's about realizing what life is really about. I'm terrified about being emotionally ruined after finishing this book, but I'm going to read it anyways!!

6. "Wild" - Cheryl Strayed

Again, it's said to be a story of self-discovery, and I want to read the book before I go see Reese Witherspoon in the movie!!

7. "Nobody is Ever Missing" - Catherine Lacey

The thing I kept seeing about this book were debates on the cover and how they couldn't put the book down until they finished it because it was that suspenseful. Well, we'll see about that...

8. "The Uncommon Reader" - Alan Bennett

A pretty short read, it's about a queen who reads so much she begins to skip royal events in order to stay home and read. Seems to be fun and a little bit more of a lighter read, so I'm all for that!

9. "The Hundred Year Old Man Who Jumped Out Of A Window and Disappeared" - Jonas Joasson

This book looked cute but action-packed at the same time. This old man sneaks out of his nursing home with a suitcase full of drug money... Sounds pretty crazy, and like a great read!

10. "Girls In White Dresses" - Jennifer Clos

On every list I read for books twenty-sometings have to read, this one was on every single one. It follows three girls and their trials of love, friendship, their careers, and just being a twenty-something- all while planning a wedding!

11. "Bossypants" - Tina Fey

I've been meaning to read this book for YEARS and I WILL finally get around to reading this!!... maybe.

12. "The Best Advice I Ever Got: Lessons From Extraordinary Lives" - Katie Couric

Everyone can always use a little motivation, especially in your college years. Why not get motivation from the most amazing people ever? Yeah, I've got nothing. That's why this book is definitely going to be read this summer!

13. "The Art of Racing In The Rain" - Garth Stein

This book has been sitting on my bookshelf for a year, and I can feel it just looking at me and whispering "l\Let me make you cry... please. Just begin reading..."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
