Summer Ends "Long Distance" In College Relationships

127

I am one of those people who is still dating their high school sweetheart. (It'll be two years in July!) He goes to K-State and I go to KU - rivalry at it's finest. The two schools are about an hour and half apart, which of course means I am one of those people in a long distance relationship.

You may hear "Oh, stay single in college, it's the way to go," or "long distance sucks, dating at the same college sucks, just avoid it all." In my mind though, there isn't anything wrong with dating. There especially isn't anything wrong dating long distance. (Or dating the same person you did in high school, if you guys love each other, who cares what everyone else says. If you want to make it work, you will.)

For me, my long distance relationship has made me a better person. It requires more trust to be in the foundation of the relationship, our friendship has to be stronger than anyone else's, and we have to put in a lot of driving. It also makes me more responsible, reliable, and honest. I can't put "In an LDR" onto a resume, but I know that when a potential employer asks me what my weakness is, it won't be one of those three qualities.

A long distance relationship can have it's perks, such as more time for your own hobbies or always having a date to pat, but it does have it's downsides, obviously being away from one another is one. One major perk that mine has is with the end of the school year and beginning of summer, I will only be living two minutes away from him. So goodbye to LDR, hello sleepovers and spending all day together without a pending goodbye.

I do know some people who have it the opposite way, LDR in the summer and together in the school year, and for me, that would suck even more. Sure, you'll be able to go to the library together and get lunch in between classes, but you won't be able to go to the zoo any day of the week. Or spend all day at the pool followed by a bonfire and marshmallows. So to those people, I'm sorry.

And to those people who have negative views about relationships and long distance ones, I'm sorry. You are missing out on so much. Especially the "we're no longer far apart" sex.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
