I know I have said these things, and so have some classmates.

As a student at Rhode Island College I have taken summer classes every summer I have been a student. As a senior, here are the top 10 things I hear my friends say about summer classes.

1. "That was a waste of money"

Giphy

At almost one thousand dollars for a summer course, you better be learning something. One summer class I took, I could not even tell you one thing I learned from it, and neither could my classmates. Sometimes the classes are harder, but sometimes they are so watered down you do not learn a thing.

2. "Why is this not an online class?"

Giphy

Sometimes in summer classes I have taken we have worked on assignments in class. Like the professor will not even lecture, they will just have a worksheet or a packet for us to finish. Why couldn't we do it at home and email it to you?!?!

3. "Wow, this is a lot of reading!"

Giphy

Some of the summer classes I have taken have had so many readings, and books to read for them! I had 6 readings per class one summer session! At least I was learning something, but I felt like I had to put my life on hold while I did those classes.

4. "Can we have class outside?"

Giphy

It sometimes is so stuffy in certain classrooms that it is sometimes unbearable to even be in the room. I have had professors even cancel class, or end early because it is too hot in the room to be in there. Why can't we just meet outside?!

5. "Why isn't this offered in the Fall?"

Giphy

Really though! Why can't the just offer all the classes you need in the Fall and Spring!

6. "Can I just get away with handing this in late?"

Giphy

Been there, done that, I have a 3.5 GPA, let that sink in for a second. Live your life, Black Board will still be there later.

7. "I just want to go to the beach"

Giphy

Just remember how great it will feel to go to the beach after you ace this class! You could always skip class to go!

8. "At least I am going to be done with college sooner"

Giphy

This is what I repeat to myself daily! The sooner you finish, the less times you have to take summer classes!

9. "I pay all of this money for no air conditioner"

Giphy

TRUTH! Why do I pay so much money to be sweating like a pig? I thought I was paying for a class, not a sauna membership.

10. "I am finally done!"

Giphy

The best part about a summer class is finishing the class! It is only six weeks, you can do it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
