Home is cool, but college is cooler.

Most people think that summer is the best time ever. It is what everybody looks forward to. Everybody thinks summer will be full of fun and adventures. While all that might be true, there are still things that actually really suck about summer.

Not seeing your college friends.

You go to school and meet all of these amazing people. You make some extraordinary friends, but you're expected to go 3 months without seeing them. Talk about torture.

Sunburn.

Being at the beach and/or lake is all fun and games until you come inside after a long day and look in the mirror and see Larry the Lobster looking back at you.

Eating all alone.

While at school, there's always someone to eat with. If one of your friends is in class, you have another friend that isn't. At home, everybody is always working.

Work.

Having a job is nice and all, but it definitely is a bummer to summer. When you aren't working, your friends are. When your friends aren't working, you are.

Paying money to eat.

Being in college, you more than likely have a meal plan. Yes, you pay for this, but it may be covered my scholarships, grants, or loans. It's almost like you aren't even spending money. Then when you come home, you have to buy food. Everyday. Also, it seems like the amount I spend on a meal plan is less than what I spend on food when I am home.

Your hometown gym.

The gym at school is always so much better. It isn't full of weird, old men. The gym at school is a lot bigger. Also, my hometown gym does not have my favorite work out machine.

Summer classes.

You sign up for a summer class thinking that it is a really great idea. The week comes that the class starts, and you are already regretting it.

Seriously, I really miss my friends.

I miss them so much that this is how I had to start and end my list. You get so close to your school friends and then you have to just LEAVE. It is actually heart breaking. You don't understand how hard it is until you experience it. At least now you have a valid reason to go on a road trip.

Summer can surprisingly be really tough when you are used to your college/uni life. At least there are only about 3 short months of summer until we can all go back to our normal lives. Being home is cool and all, but there is something about being at college that is really great.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
