Summer Book Bucket List

Summer is in full-force now, and one of my favorite summer hobbies is reading a good book. I really enjoy a good book by the pool, at the beach, or on the porch. So I have, for you, my personal summer book bucket list. If you have read them, let me know what you think! If you haven't, let's start a book club and talk about them.

1. "Secret Lives and Private Eyes: A Delanie Fitzgerald Mystery" by Heather Weidner

I'm a little biased about this book because: I love a good crime/mystery novel. Any good page-turner is good for me. The author goes to my church. How cool is that?! So I highly encourage you to read this one, especially if you live or are from the Chesterfield area because that is where this book takes place. Anyway, this is about Delanie Fitzgerald, a private investigator, and two cases she is trying to solve simultaneously. To throw a huge curveball, one of her clients is a lead suspect in a murder case and must help clear her client's name, while also trying to crack her own two cases. It is said to be a fast-paced mystery novel and if you like a strong female lead role, this book is definitely for you!

2. "The Nest" by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney

This book is about a trust fund set aside for five siblings. One of them got into a car accident with a much younger passenger in his car and then he completed a stay in rehab for a drinking problem. The problem with the accident is that it seems to be detrimental from receiving their shares from the fund, which they still can't touch for a few more months. This book promises to be full of family dynamics, testing relationships, and learning who you can trust when push comes to shove. A good break from a crime/mystery book, but still full of substance to keep you reading.

3. "The Girl with No Past" by Kathryn Croft

This is a novel about a girl named Leah Mills, who is constantly running from a terrible event that happened in her past. For years, she has no connections with people until she meets Julian. But on the 14th anniversary of that day, she receives a card that threatens to destroy what little bit of life she has created. This book is said to be a good book for fans of "Gone Girl" and "Girl on the Train," so I honestly have some pretty high expectations for it.

4. "I Let You Go" by Clare Mackintosh

This book is about a girl named Jenna who moves to a remote cottage to escape her past, specifically one night that changed everything. But her past is about to catch up with her. Looks like it should be pretty interesting.

5. "Ordinary Grace" by William Kent Krueger

Set in the 1960s, Frank Drum was 13 years old when his entire family died. The story is told from his perspective, but 40 years later. It is all about how he processed those losses and grew into adulthood simultaneously. Looks like it should be a good book about how all these emotions must find balance together.

This is how I plan to spend my summer weekends. Join me in reading these and let's talk about them together. Happy reading!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
