Let Summer Begin

Just a little letter to get your summer started.

As the fall semester officially ended for everyone, it’s time for summer to take over our youthful lives. After the stressful deadlines, finals and multiple papers it is finally time to enjoy the break. Now what are some of the big plans to include? How to spend this magnificent time off? Different people have different ideas of what fun is but there’s quite a bit that can be wholesome and constant for everyone.

First off, get a decent week of sleep. We all know that you haven’t had some good rest in a while, so before you go have your summertime adventure, you need to be well-rested. Put on your comfiest pjs, fluff up your pillows, get the good blanket, arrange your stuffed animals just right and snooze. Just knock out. Sleep and don’t apologize.

If you’re feeling like you’ve neglected your general hygiene because of all the stressful busyness, take some time to beautify and get yourself feeling like a top notch you. Go to the salon for a full pampering if you can, hair, nails, everything! Pamper yourself! If money is tight, have a home spa day, exfoliate and moisturize and sit with that sheet face mask for an hour while you binge-watch and catch up on the shows you’ve missed. Skin? Soft. Hair? Luscious. Feeling like the Gods have blessed you with ethereal purity.

And speaking of binge-watching shows, make sure to get that out of the way as soon as you can. Even though summer might seem like the perfect time to watch everything all the time, you don’t wanna miss out on actually hanging out and catching up with other important things, like friends. It’s been a while, time to go thrifting and get some killer food. They’ve missed you. Bzzt, bzzt, that’s a text from your homie. Time to have fun with the buds.

If you’re going to be sinning this summer, make sure to be safe. Carry those condoms proudly, know your drinking limits and make sure to have a buddy with you. Think of it as an adult summer camp, keep a buddy nearby. And make sure you know what you are putting in your body, it is fun to be the danger, but it is also fun to be alive and well.

But most importantly, have a pleasurable break. It’s been quite the interesting beginning to 2017 and everyone deserves to rest. With “The Onion” headlines looking more like the truth every day, anything is possible. You want to steal the Declaration of Independence? I think you might have a shot at that. Follow what your heart desires and have a fulfilling summer filled with fun, friends, food and family. May happiness follow you everywhere!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
