We all love the feeling of the start of a new summer, but sometimes it's difficult to figure out what to do. Many of us tend to spend it staying indoors, watching Netflix, and doing nothing until it all comes to an end right before our eyes. Here is a list of activities for you to make the most out of your summer.
1. Work
This probably isn't the most exciting or enjoyable, but at least you're making some cash right? It's always convenient to work over summer because you won't have to worry about assignments and exams (unless you take summer classes, which usually isn't too bad). That way you can work super hard and make as much money as you can while gaining some work experience!
2. Learn a new language
Today, being multilingual is such a beneficial skill to have. You can communicate with more people and possibly receive a raise at your future job! It's also always fun to show off your new skills to friends and family. There are tons of useful websites, apps, and YouTube videos for learning a new language (with no cost). You can also check out a book at your local library, or just sit at a bookstore for a few hours and teach yourself.
3. Start a new hobby
Summer is the perfect time of the year for finding leisure activities! You could teach yourself how to longboard, begin a journal, learn how to cook, learn how to juggle, or start doing photography. It never hurts to have more skills. You could also catch up on a hobby that you normally wouldn't have time for during the year. I know I'll be reading tons of books this summer! Use this time to relax, focus on yourself, and do activities you find joy in.
4. Hang out with friends
Everyone is always so busy during the year, especially when you and the rest of your squad all attend different schools. Use your summer to hang out with friends! You could get some coffee, have a sleepover, take a road trip somewhere, or have a cool photoshoot around your town. This is a great way to stay in touch and keep your friendships going strong.
5. Know your city
This is one of my favorite things to do! There are probably tons of amazing cafes, restaurants, tourist spots, and other awesome locations around your area that you have probably never visited. Have you ever been curious about that one dessert shop or that one thrift store that you always pass by, but never went inside? Check them out! Take this time to explore your city, and visit all the great places it offers. Maybe even try to discover a beautiful, secret spot for you and someone special?
6. Attend concerts
Going to a concert doesn't always mean spending tons of money seeing Ariana Grande or Justin Bieber live. Your city probably has tons of music performances from smaller artists and bands. This is a great way to discover a new music genre and/or artist, while being social and a part of your community. These events are also pretty cheap to attend and are nowhere near the cost of a Justin Bieber concert ticket.
7. Attend a festival
There are tons of festivals during summer. It could be a music festival, farmer's market, or an arts festival. Some are free to attend, and it's always fun to take a nice walk with friends and family. Just attend as many outdoor events as you possibly can!
8. Try a DIY project
There are hundreds of DIY projects and are tons of fun to do! You could DIY room decorations, a facial/hair mask, birthday gifts, laptop/phone cases, t-shirts, mugs, nails, jewelry holders, and so much more. Use this time to be clever and creative!
9. Volunteer
You definitely can never go wrong with volunteering! If you really can't find anything else to do, why not donate your time and make a difference in your community? There are tons of different ways you can help out and the tasks are rarely difficult. This is also a fantastic way to make friends, so go out and help your community!
10. Workout
Create a summer workout playlist and keep yourself healthy! You could hit the gym, run a marathon, or even just workout at home. Search the web for different exercises and create a workout routine. You don't need to workout daily, but as long as you do it most days of the week, you will keep yourself healthy!
11. Go canoeing or kayaking
Put your electronic devices away and say hello to nature. Visit a lake and go canoeing or kayaking! These are perfect summer activities because they're relaxing and you get a great workout.
