Summer 2016 To-Do List

Make this summer count by filling it with new adventures!

Summer 2016 To-Do List
Greta Lausch

Between all the summer jobs, internships, and to-do lists that will soon fill up the next three months, we all have to figure out a way to fit in some fun here and there! Nothing beats summer nights by the lake sitting around a bonfire with your BFFs, but it's always fun to spice things up a bit and have new experiences during the 90 days of freedom! Here's what's on my 2016 summer bucket list. What's on yours?

1. Find as many food trucks as possible!

For some reason food from a food truck always tastes better. Maybe it's the truck or the fact that you walk and eat, but whatever the reason, I love it! I'm hoping to track down as many cool and unique trucks as possible this summer!

2. Waterparks, waterparks, and more waterparks.

I don't remember the last time I spent the whole day at a waterpark! It's something fun no matter how old you are, and it's a great way to pretend to be 10 again! Nothing beats the rush of a crazy long waterslide or a high up zip line!

3. Camp somewhere other than the woods.

Find somewhere other than the forest & pitch a tent! Make it cozy and bring all the same gear, but take the campground to a new place this summer! Whether that's on a rooftop or on the front porch, get out there and do it! It'll be fun and hopefully a little less buggy!

4. Go to every waterfall you can find.

Waterfalls are some of the prettiest sights to see, and they're all over the place if you look hard enough! Go explore them and jump in the water on a hot summer day!

5. Eat weird food combinations.

This is a photo of a place in Minneapolis, MN called Milkjam Creamery. They put ice cream between two halves of a donut -- weird, but so yummy, right? Take this summer to try wild and crazy new food! Go to tiny hole-in-the-wall places and order the weirdest thing on the menu. You never know until you try something!

6. Learn to cook.

We're reaching the time in our lives where knowing how to cook is nearing a necessity. We can't be breaking the bank on eating out all the time and, honestly, fast food doesn't even compare to the yummy meals you can create in the kitchen! Take the summer to find your favorite dishes to make. This is one that'll be good in the long run!

7. Have as many bonfires as possible.

When I think of summer, I think of bonfires and sitting by the lake with friends stuffing my face with s'mores. At the end of each summer I always wish we would've had more nights just sitting, laughing, and enjoying night!

8. Kayak!

This is something that I've never done and really hope to do this summer! Such a fun way to experience different lakes and rivers around you, and it's a great workout. Grab all your friends and get a group to go with you.

9. Eat at an outdoor patio once a week.

There's few things better in life than eating outside on a hot summer night with good food and good company! Make it a goal to go out once a week to eat outside at a fun new place. This is something my family and I decided to do this upcoming summer, and I can't wait for it!

10. Take some sort of class.

Get out of your comfort zone and take a class! Personally, I would love to get better at painting and I hope I can fit in a class sometime this summer. It's a great way to keep your creative juices flowing on the long break from hard thinking and something fun to do. Take one alone or grab some friends. Either way it'll be a great new experience & a unique way to stretch yourself!

Summer always goes by so fast in my opinion. So filling the days with things you love and will remember forever is a great way to not be disappointed when it all comes to an end in September! Whatever you do, make sure to do it with the people you love! Here's to a great summer 2016! Enjoy!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
