During the entire school year, I found myself wishing for summer. I am sure many of you feel the same. Those anxiety-driven all nighters were the absolute worst and I could find myself thinking of nothing more than this sweet almost three month break from reality. Looking back, it seems as though my freshman year went by super quickly. But while I was sitting in class, it seemed like it drug on and on.
As summer got closer, I dreamt of sitting at home lying in bed all day watching Netflix. I thought sleeping until noon, eating junk food and staying out until 3 a.m. would be my life for these many weeks we have off from school. I kept telling myself that I needed a break from school and just life in general.
After summer officially started and I spent a few days or so lying on the couch all day watching a Netflix series I have already seen, I realized I had to do something more with the summer I had been blessed with. After all, we only have two more summer vacations until we start our lives in the real world, so we have to make them count, right? It may be the temperature of Satan's kitchen and it may be going by faster than you think, but we have to make this vacation awesome.
I put down the television remote and hit the gym. Instead of lying on the couch, I decided to lie by the pool to work on my ghostliness. I planned two vacations that I will remember forever and I am so excited for them. I stay up late but still wake up super early so I don't miss a thing.
Don't let work, a summer romance or even that dreaded summer reading hold you back from the summer you deserve. Every second counts and school will be starting back up before we know it. Spend time with high school friends, family, and make time for yourself.
Spend time volunteering and meeting new people. We all need a reminder, me especially, of how truly blessed we actually are. Most big girl jobs do not come with a summer vacation, unfortunately. We will be working forever, but we will not have a summer break forever. Be thankful for the summers we get, the vacations we go on, and the friendships we make.
I am leaving for my first vacation today and I am oh so excited for it. The beach truly does make everything better, especially when you are with wonderful friends. I hope to make my summer and all of my friend's summer the best one yet. We have the power to turn each day in to a great one and we should try our hardest to do that every day. I wish this summer could last forever.
