Summer break is my favorite time of the year for several reasons: no more classes, beautiful weather and more time to do what I want to do. For those of you who are unsure of what to do with their time this summer here are a few suggestions:
Spend more time outside
Unplug from all of the electronic devices and try to be outside and enjoy the summer sun. Whether it be spending time at the park with your best friends or sitting on the roof of your house with a good book, being outside and offline more often is good for the body and mind.
Take a beach trip with people you love
If parks aren’t your thing, try to take a beach trip (even if it’s just for a weekend) with people you love to be around (especially if it’s going to be a long drive to get there). If you can’t afford to take a trip down south because hey, we’re all broke college students, a backyard beach is always an option. Get some friends together and set up a mock “beach” with a mini pool, cold drinks and good music.
Get organized
Life can get hectic, and sometimes we neglect important aspects of our lives. Use the break from school to get your life, your bedroom, your car or whatever else you have in your life that needs some TLC in the shape it needs to be in before the fall semester. Try to work on time management and balancing hard work with fun so that life doesn't always seem so stressful. Think of the summer break as a chance to reinvent yourself before a new semester begins.
Spend more time with your friends
During the school semester, it can be hectic trying to spend time with all of your friends. It can be especially difficult trying to stay connected with your friends who go to different school. Summer is the perfect time to catch up with people you didn’t get to spend a lot of time with during school and can be a chance for you to reconnect with friends you may have lost touch with.
Spend more time with family (and your sisters, too!)
This one is especially important if you’re going to school away from home. Your friends are important of course, but your family is even more so. Your family misses you when you’re away at school, always at work, or always working on things for school. Even if they don’t say it out loud, your family is proud of you and they’re the ones who will always be there for you (whether you think you need them to be or not). Plus, your friends will understand if you choose your family over them sometimes.
Try something new
Summer break is the perfect time to try new things. Whether it be a new hairstyle, learning to play a new instrument, trying new food, or even making new friends, summer is the best time to try out new things because you have more free time than you normally would during the school semester. Go crazy and do something you've always wanted to do like, I don't know, pet a shark.
Most importantly... HAVE FUN
Of course most of us have jobs so we don’t have as much free time as we would like BUT in the free time we do have, the most important thing to do is have fun and enjoy the life we have. After all, life is short and we only get one so it’s important to live it up while we can.
