How my school family started

So here I am... I finished my freshman year year of college alive. It took lots of studying to get through the classes with a good GPA. There is one thing that got me through it all. My heroes were my study group.

The first day of anatomy one was nerve racking, exciting, and confusing. All fifty of us sat there and waited for our teacher to walk in. We looked around in silence not knowing who one another was. Then we hear wheels coming down the aisle and this tiny, short lady walks in. "Good afternoon class and welcome to anatomy one 1571 with cadaver."

These next sixteen weeks flew by. The first thing she made known was to develop friendships and study groups. I looked around at the people who were sitting by me. I knew that I would soon have to find people. That is just what I did on the first day, I saw a couple group of girls talking about being in a group together. I thought why not go for it.

I went up to the group and asked if I could also be a part of their study group. They were so welcoming. Another girl came up to us called Brie (for privacy reasons) It turns out Brie and I became lab partners as well. She became more than my lab partner, shes one of my best friends now. It is weird how some of the hardest classes can bring new people into your life.

It didn't only bring one person but many others. One in particular was Kale she was quiet at first and I thought she didn't like any of us. Maybe she thought I was a little loud and that could be true. In the end she was just quiet. Eventually we all warmed up to each other. We became our own study group. On the days I didn't or couldn't make it to class they told me what happened in class. Before our practical and test we would study at school. It came time for our final and we had our first meet up outside of school. Now I couldn't exactly tell you how much studying we got done but I had a blast.

I ended up having summer school with some of the same people. It was so exciting. Brie was still in my class. Brie and I still talked to Kale so we got even closer. We got a group chat going to check on each other.

So my study group saved my butt throughout this time. They weren't just here to help me with my class but to become my friends. They related to me by wanting to go in medical field, and help people. They cheered me on and told me that I am smart and I can do this. I honestly don't know how I would've made it through without them. We now talk on the daily and they are all my inspiration to do something great. I have to end in the proper way.. as Grey's Anatomy says: "Friends are the family we choose" so thank you guys for becoming like family to me.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
