The Struggles That Come With Having Roommates

But Makes It All Worthwhile

The day you move into your first dorm/condo/apartment/house with roommates can be a very emotion filled day. All of the future plans with them begin to consume your mind, and overall it tends to be pretty exciting. But not always is it easy having roommates, especially more than one. There are some problems that tend to arise.

1. Decorating Shared Rooms

Coming to a mutual agreement on what color curtains to buy, what type of patterned pillows to buy, and whether or not to buy a rug with fur or carpet can cause quite the commotion.

2. Clothes

When having more than one roommate, what is better than having another closet to pick clothes from? More the merrier right? Well, not when clothes suddenly start disappearing and are nowhere to be found.

3. Food

Food is something that is a huge necessity, and can get pretty territorial very quick. It is easy to share the little things like pasta, but others must keep their paws off the Little Debbie's.

4. Utilities

Once you move out of your parent's house and have to start paying your bills, enforcing house rules is a must. Someone is always yelling at someone to turn off the water while brushing their teeth or to turn off the light as you leave the room.

5. Laundry

Compromising on which days of the week everyone will do laundry and forgetting to do it on your day tends to be an occurring event. Then, in the moment when you are in desperate need of a clean pair of underwear, you find yourself butting heads with whoever has clothes in the washer and/or dryer.

6. TV

Not everyone likes the same kind of TV shows. Whether it be horror films, comedies, or action packed movies, finding a happy median is a difficulty. Usually it will result in someone leaving the room or turning off the TV and heading into their room with their laptop for a Netflix filled night.

7. "Quiet Hours"

There is never really a set time in the day when you can have a "peaceful moment". Someone, or even yourself, is always doing something; whether that be cleaning, facetiming, snapchatting, cooking, or watching TV.

8. Different Schedules

Being able to spend quality time with your roommates, whom you love and adore, can be quite challenging when everyone has different class and work schedules. When you actually find a day when everyone has a little time for some bonding, is a day of celebration.

9. Making Plans

Following the different schedules, we all tend to have different sleeping patterns. When the day does come when we can all enjoy each others company and want to go out, the end result is usually us all falling asleep in our beds for the night.

10. Visitors

Everyone pays rent, therefore everyone is given the ability to have whomever over, but the problem tends to be the hours that people have their visitors over. Which in the end, just creates the viscious cycle of "everyone pays rent, therefore everyone is given the ability to have whomever over".

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
