OBJECTION! Emotional influence is.... OBJECTIONABLE!

In today's world, it seems that logic is exceptionally rare. Everything is ruled by the heart and emotions. Thanks to a worldview where they're not in charge, you may be seen as one with more common sense, but there are struggles that come with it.

1. People think you have no emotions

No, I'm not a psychopath or a sociopath. No, I'm not heartless. Yes, I have morals. I have a heart. I have emotions. I just don't let them control most of my daily life. I feel things, I laugh, I cry, I get angry, I'm just in control of all that... mostly.

2. But in a way, you can't blame them

Yes, I'm excited, well, as much as I can be. Under certain circumstances, this could be considered not a big deal. I'm sad, I'm capable of being sad, I just don't like to cry in front of people. On top of that, I can't cry unless something is greatly affecting me. Sorry sad puppy commercials, but you're not getting to me.

3. Being the voice of reason

Sometimes this is a good thing. I'm the one who knows the right thing to do, and not to explode over something so trivial. But there's no guarantee that I'm going to be listened to. Emotions are strong things.

4. You prefer the facts

I don't care how emotional, controversial, or "correct" your opinion is, I'm not just going to accept it without any facts backing it up. That goes for any statement, I'm not going to believe anything without evidence.

5. You still have strong opinions, but you don't share them

Just because I'm a person of logic doesn't mean I have certain opinions. But in this world of passion and hatred, why should I go about sharing them? Other people may not react well to them, especially if they're unpopular.

6. There has to be a reason for everything

It could be big things like social norms, or little things like whether not a movie is worth seeing. I can never do anything for no reason. There has to be a purpose for everything. And no, #YOLO or "for the lulz" don't count as good reasons.

7. There's no such thing as optimism

There's either realism or pessimism. There's no doubt that 2017 wasn't a good year, so logically, what's to be optimistic about? Though, regardless, it's hard to look on the bright side completely when the facts aren't there.

8. Compulsively Judging People

I try. I REALLY try. But I can't help judging you. If you're foolish, especially, I'm going to judge you. But don't worry, first impressions don't typically stick, and you won't hear I'm thinking unless you ask... And ask me to be honest.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
