There are two types of college students: ones who are just regular students and ones who are regular students with a part-time job. As if college wasn't hard enough as it is, right? I have a huge amount of respect for people who share my struggle. The struggles that these kinds of college students go through are as follows:
When you get paid by the hour, your life just sucks in general. There really is no subtle way of saying it. You work a 10 hour day for what, 70-90 bucks when taxes are taken out? I would almost rather be broke.
You have to adjust your school schedule according to your work schedule, not the other way around. Your job doesn't care if you are stressed with school. As far as they're concerned, the only kind of stress that you need to worry about is them. Oh, sure, let me just fail my classes so I can flip burgers for a college student who doesn't have a job. It makes perfect sense, right?
Once you get off of work, everyone is already doing something and didn't wait for you. Whether you work in the morning and get off at five o'clock or work in the afternoon and get off at midnight, everyone is already doing something. During the day, that's when everyone goes to the pool on a nice day. During the night, that's when people start to go out and have some actual fun. Where are you during all of this? Flipping burgers.
The people you are working for won't be making nearly as much money as you will be in a couple years. This one probably annoys me the most. They think they're so high and mighty because they're your boss now, but they won't be later. You do understand I'm working for this crappy job for the sole purpose of surviving during college so I can get a great job later. Please don't treat me like I'm some peasant who will respect you just because you're my boss.
You most likely have friends who have mom and dad pay for everything. They don't do nearly as much as you do, but yet they still get all the same privileges as you. It really isn't fair. However, you can't judge everyone's situation just because you work for your money. There are reasons behind everything.
Seeing your coworkers outside of work is just, weird. What do I say? Hey, nice to see you in regular clothes? It's awkward. The last thing I want to talk about OUTSIDE of work is something about work, which seems to be the only thing that we can talk about.
Staying after-hours is really not worth it all. Everyone's like, "But that means you're just getting more money for staying late, right?" No. Well, sure, the three hours later that I stayed made me about 20 bucks. In my opinion, I'd rather pay them 20 bucks and not have to deal with staying late. I have things to do, like you know, college.
I'm not saying every part-time job is like this, but in general, these are typically feelings of this type of college student. I can honestly say my job is nothing like this, except a few, but I'm trying to level with the other people out there who normally do have these every day struggles.
