When you’re a college student, trying to find time to do everything can be a struggle, from class, to homework, to trying to make some money, it can be a struggle to find enough time to fit it all in. And since you aren't living with your parents, finding a job to make some money is a must. Here are a few of the struggles that college students face when they are job hunting.
1. Trying to find a job that is flexible with your crazy schedule.
A lot of times, the place where you are applying has a set schedule for the positions that they are accepting applications for. And when your schedule isn’t consistent, it can be hard to find an employer that is willing to work around your schedule.
2. Finding a job that you will actually enjoy.
I don’t think wanting a job that you won’t despise is too much to ask for. When you work somewhere that you absolutely hate, it makes the rest of your life even more stressful. I know that a part-time job isn’t going to be your dream job, but it’s nice to work at a place that you don’t dread going to every day.
3. Small town means less opportunity.
If you go to school in a small town, that means that there are less places where you can apply. There aren’t very many stores or restaurants and the ones that are there are most likely not looking for new employees. It’s frustrating going into store after store asking if they are hiring and being turned down. And even if they do give you an application, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are hiring.
4. Needing more vacation time because you don’t live there.
When you apply for a job in the town where you are going to school but you don’t live there year round, it can be hard for the employer to want to hire you since you won’t be there long term. They want someone that is going to be there during the holidays and isn’t going to be gone for months at a time. And finding a job during the summer is even worse since you will only be home for three months.
5. Not always having the experience that the employer is looking for.
The only places that I have worked in my life are at daycares which means that finding a job in retail is going to be hard. They are usually looking for someone who has worked in that field before. And since college students are young, employers may believe that they lack the life experience it takes to work at their business. But we can’t get experience if they don’t hire us.
