With the beginning of October comes the true beginning of fall. The beginning of October also brings on a struggle of dressing for the weather. In late September it begins and the constant need for weather appropriate clothing gets real.
As September comes to a close, the confusion begins. Walking outside for my 8 a.m. on a late September morning most likely means I am going to need a jacket, but by the time my noon class rolls around I will not need the jacket. Then, I am stuck carrying it around and by 3 p.m. it is time to change into shorts because sweating in jeans is not fun. Finally as night rolls around, I probably need the jacket and jeans again.
October is tricky. It can appear to be warm outside, but in the morning when you step outside your door and the cold air bites you, the jacket or vest is a staple. October days also warm up as they progress. October can also go both ways in shoe wear, some days sandals are still doable, while other days fall boots are more suitable.
Fall break happens just in time for one to go home and bring back all the winter clothes that will be much needed in the time to come.
November is a fine line between fall staying fall, or it beginning to snow (such as Halloween night last year). Although in this month we should all probably be dressing warmer out of spite. I myself refuse to break out a full on winter coat, hat, gloves, ect. Although this usually leaves me kind of cold and stubborn.
December begins and finally I cave into the winter coat.
Walking to class becomes a struggle in January. Mornings are worse than they already are and the only thoughts in your head are:
Why is it so cold?
I should have skipped.
Probably not going to learn anything important anyway.
If I fall on this patch of ice do I have to go to class?
Maybe I can get my tuition paid then?
Do boys not feel cold? That man is wearing shorts.
Why do they never dress like it’s cold?
Cool, I can see my breath, but not feel my nose.
During February the anger over the cold is undeniable.
March finally hits and you could be home free or hiding with the groundhog waiting for winter to pass.
Now once April begins, so does the rain. (Anyone on Butler’s campus will understand the problem we have with rain). Hunter boots could stay in business based on the sorority girl spending alone. I also happen to always be that person stuck without an umbrella and walking back from class soaked. Although I did cave and buy Hunters...
As we finish finals, we round out the school year with early May with the constant debate of shorts weather or jean weather.
So where does that leave us?
Life lesson: Be prepared for any weather swings when moving to college.
