Everyone for the most part is always taller than me. I'm 4'' 11' and three quarters, and yes those three quarters of an inch matter. It's more than likely that taller individuals wish they were shorter, and shorter folk, taller. Many say they would rather be shorter but are you really aware of the things we have to go through being short? Being short is not a bad thing but some people unaware of the actual struggles we have to face everyday. Not everything is bad, there are also advantages for being short. Here are some things only other short people can understand, and other people can discover about what we shorter people have to go through on a daily basis.
1. “You know, you are really short"
Haha, yes I am, thank you for stating the obvious.
2. You don’t have to duck for doors or tree branches
That’s right tall people, we one up you there.
3. Rolling and hemming your pants becomes a norm
Chances are almost every pair pants you go to buy are too long. You know you’re short when crop pants fit you look normal pants are supposed to fit.
4. You are still tall enough to ride rollercoasters
Hopefully, you’re not too short ride and you know that you will never be too tall to ride.
5. You can still ride the kiddie ride
You get those times when a parent randomly comes up to you and is like, “Can you ride with my son or daughter? She doesn’t want to go alone and I’m too tall."
6. The shoe struggle is real
If you are short and have small feet like me, you know hard it is to find shoes. You know it’s hard to find shoes sized 5 when shoe departments have to sticker those boxes to make it easier for people with small feet. Chances are you also have a friend that has suggested, “Why don’t you shop in the kids section? 1. I’m not a kid 2. There is a reason why there are kids' shoes and adults'.
7. You can’t reach
You most likely need assistance reaching for objects unattainable for your height, you get that “Let me help you” all of the time. Although sometimes you can get crafty, like at the grocery store and you find yourself climbing the shelves or standing in the shopping cart.
8. You’re neck hurts from talking to people
It hurts your neck after a while from having a conversation with someone taller than you, always having to look up.
9, The front row for a group picture is your spot
“Okay, short people in the front, tall people in the back.”
10. Please don’t sit in front of me
When you go to the movies or a play and you have to pray someone tall does not sit in front of you, so you don’t end up just looking at their back or bob and weaving your head.
11. You’re fun size
Changing the name does not make it less hurtful, includes pint-sized and vertically challenged.
12. People think you are younger than you are
You get referred to as a children sometimes. You know you will be carded until like you’re 40. When you are older you will appreciate everyone thinking you are younger than you are.
13. You don’t have to worry about leg room
You can relax in a plane or car with the ease of having enough room for your legs.
14. You can’t reach the peddles
You are left right against the steering wheel because your feet wouldn’t reach the peddles otherwise.
15. You are cute
You are always labeled as cute because you are tiny.
16. Did you say maxi skirt, I thought you meant dress
When you go to buy a maxi skirt but it’s so long you can wear it as a dress.
17. When people are surprised how strong you are
Just because I’m small does not mean that I am weak.
18. "Oh, I didn't see you there"
Come on, I'm not that short.
19. You need to run to catch up with your friends
Your stride is so much smaller compared to your friends that you have to run to keep over with their walk.
20. You can fit into small places
Hide and seek is your game; you're able to fix into places others couldn't
