As many people know Todrick Hall is known for many of his music videos on YouTube. He has made videos such as "4 Taylor," "Wizard of Ahhhhs," "Disney Dudez," and my personal favorite, "Evolution of Disney." This summer this man has gone far and beyond and produced a whole visual Album called "Straight Outta Oz." Let me tell you it is the most emotional and best thing I have listen to in my entire life.
Even though we already know him for being one of the most famous YouTube users in the world, we don’t really know much about his background. This album does exactly that. Each song is put in order from when he started singing to where he made it big. Each song has this emotional and personal touch, which shows what Todrick’s life was truly like through his own eyes. This album makes it more of a personal touch and it rides through all of his emotions and personal memories and we are along for the ride.
He has also graced us with many special guests throughout the visual album This helps the audience see each person who has influenced him or knocked him down throughout the years of his career. For instance, Amber Riley, who gives one of the best ballads on the album that will make you stand up and cheer with tears coming down your eyes is featured. Jordin Sparks is also on the album, which gives a glimpse of what guns and violence has done to this country. And last but not least, Joseph Gordon Levitt gives a performance like no other and I’m not just saying that because he is one of my favorite actors.
So, why did he choose OZ as the theme? Well, The Wizard of Oz is one of the most iconic movies that tells people that YOU can always find your way back home even if it means falling in the process. This is one of the messages that Todrick clearly states in this album. He proves that there are going to be people or things that drag you down in life, but it should never make you stop achieving your dreams, even if it means going home. I think that using the Wizard of Oz as a base to this album was the best way to send his message to fans around the world. Other messages in the album are ones that relate to the media today. One of my personal favorites was the song “Water Guns” because it showed that violence isn’t a game anymore and we need to stop it before it gets worse.
In conclusion, Todrick has done it again making such a powerful and emotional album and I thank him for letting us take a ride through his powerful story.
