Stop Waiting, Enjoy The Now

Fourth of July, Halloween, your birthday, Christmas, the new year. What do all of these things (as well as many others) have in common?

The very mention of these things gets you pumped up and excited, especially as they get closer and closer. We spend weeks, maybe even months preparing for, dreaming about, and anxiously awaiting big event days like these.

Between buying the perfect outfit, preparing a nice dinner, making sure every aspect of the respective day is beyond perfect, we spend lots of time preparing for something that will all be over in a time span of 24 hours or less

This seems like a lot of time spent waiting in anticipation for just one day. Sure, these days are often filled with lots of fun and well worth the wait. But why do we spend so much time waiting?

What got me thinking about this was the coming of the new year. Everyone always swears that the coming year is going to be the year that everything changes and it will be their year, the greatest year ever. But this makes me wonder, why do we wait until January 1st to change our lives?

Life is what you make it. If you want to change an aspect of your life, you can go right ahead and make that change any day you want to. In fact, you can go ahead and do absolutely anything you want to whenever you please.

Something in your life not how you want it? Go make the necessary changes to fix it! As long as you have the goal set in mind, get out there and achieve it! You want to take a huge stride to being happier, looking better, or being healthier? Get out there and go for it now, don't just wait for the calendar to hit an arbitrary date!

The point is, nobody's going to make your life better but you. You have to go out and do what makes you happy now. This doesn't even go for just new years resolutions.

Instead of waiting for that one holiday or special occasion once every few months, why not recognize what’s great in every day? Take Valentine’s Day for instance. Why do we wait until February to let those we love know we love them? Why do we wait until November to be thankful for what we have? What I’m saying is sure, these holidays are all fun to have nice little celebrations, but I’m starting to wonder if the parties, the presents, and the hype of the day are more important to most people than the actual messages.

Think about how much cooler life would be if we woke up every day as excited as we did on these special days. There are a lot of aspects in life that we seem to take for granted on a daily basis. Wake up every day excited to be able to have another day with your friends, your family, your pets. I think if we spent more time making memories and appreciating our daily lives, we would probably be happier and in the long run, our lives would be more fulfilling than only living for and loving select days a year.

In the long run, the calendar doesn’t matter. Go do whatever it is that makes you happy, go out, make every day fun even if it's just in a small way. There's great to be discovered in every day, not just because it's a designated holiday. Love the life you live.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
