How many times have you said: just one more chip, I will start working out tomorrow, I will put my laundry away later, just one more beer, I will start going to church next week, I will call grandma this weekend, I will start reading my bible more.. but not until this weekend, I don't really have time right now, I will get to it later. I know I say something around those lines probably every day, if I had to become a word, it would be procrastination, I mean seriously. The things is, I don't think I am alone in that either, I think I am surrounded by people always waiting for a new day to change how they are living their lives.
I recently read a quote about rephrasing 'I don't have time' to 'it isn't a priority', talk about an eye opening way of viewing your busy life. I think if you take a step back and look at your life, you will see all kinds of things you devote so much time to and essentially are your priority. I mean, I can sit on my phone scrolling through social media sites looking at people living their lives, or spend countless hours on pinterest pinning my dream body or life instead of actually spending that time working towards having those things for myself. I guess I think I have to have a whole pinterest board of motivation before I can even start living out my dreams.
I know its the new year, and everyone has new year's resolutions, most of which won't last until February, but you know why?! Because those are the people who wanted to change their diet in October, or March of 2007 but they kept putting it off until the New Year, the Holidays were over, they had a little more money for a gym membership, they kept saying "I am going to start being healthy, I need to make a change.... but not until tomorrow." There is nothing wrong with having a New Year's resolution, I have one myself, but this year maybe try changing your resolution to stop putting off things that are really good for you, or putting off ending things that aren't benefiting you.
The hugely important thing is to stop glorifying being busy. It's like everyone is so in love with telling people they are working 2 jobs, going to yoga, teaching a bible study, volunteering at the local soup kitchen, all while raising 4 kids and 2 puppies. I'm not saying that all of that can't be done, and if you are one of these people who have mastered this, seriously, please tell me your secret. What I am saying is that if you are laying on your floor folding towels while catching up on your favorite show on a Friday night, there is nothing wrong with that. I love being busy, but I also really love doing absolutely nothing, and I don't want anyone to think I am lazy because I don't spend every minute I have at work or on the go.
You have to think about how being busy with things takes away from some other aspect of your life. When was the last time you saw your grandma or went on a run like you love to do or visited your nieces and nephews, called your dad, hung out with your siblings, caught up with an old friend, wrote in your journal, spent time with God, baked your favorite chocolate chip cookies or just honestly sat there and enjoyed the life you have built around you. Its a give and take, you have to find the balance.
And I am definitely not saying to sit and wait for things to come to you, oh hell no, I am saying just the opposite. Go out and get the things you want, it's completely okay to be busy chasing your dreams, working towards your goals and spending time with the people you love. I mean seriously, if you wait until you are ready, you will be waiting your whole life to be the person you've always wanted to be.
So go get that puppy, take a run, buy those shoes you have had your eye on, start that blog, go eat a salad, call your mom, go on a drive. Just go out and live the life you've always wanted, don't spend your life with could haves, should haves, and I wish I would haves. In the end, you only have one life.. don't wait until tomorrow to make it worth it.
