Stop And Smell The Roses This Week

Finals aren't supposed to stop you from living.

Dead Week is behind us, and now Finals Week is frustratingly upon us here at Oklahoma State. A stressful time when you don't know what is happening, and all you know is that you want to eat and sleep. Finals week is not easy, I'll say it. But you can make it through and I promise, the other side is amazing, even if you're taking summer classes in a month.

One important thing to remember this week: your GPA does not define who you are as a person. No 3 numbers could state the excitement you feel when you see your family, the passion that lights up your eyes when you talk, or the kindness you project onto others daily. I mean, sure, you'd like to have a good GPA to graduate, but don't make grades what life is all about. We all are striving to make a name for ourselves in the world, but we also forget to take the time to live. Don't focus on the negative emotions in life. The positives are what make life so joyful and beautiful.

Take time for yourself this week and don't even think about school. Take a hike at Lake McMurtry. Visit the Botanic Garden. Grab some coffee and just have a conversation about life with your best mates. I know it can be challenging to forget about school, but sometimes it's necessary. Take some time to stop and smell the roses, I promise you won't be disappointed. Power through finals and then you're on summer break, and who doesn't love the sweet summertime air? Enjoy the world around you as much as you possibly can.

“A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”

-Roald Dahl

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
