Stop "Protecting" Us

It's not working.

Stop "Protecting" Us
Abby Pursley

Often times, people are scared to say how they truly feel because they're scared of hurting other people's feelings. Here's a little lesson, boys: stop. That's not true. You're going to hurt us (girls) regardless. And I guarantee you that if you want any chance of having a girl's respect or hurting her less, you should tell the truth from the beginning. You're not protecting our feelings.

By you dragging us along to make us think you like us, we're falling for you. We're thinking there's a chance. Thinking about the future, because that's what girls do. We've planned out the family dinners, the cute date ideas, and the cute surprises we're going to leave on your doorstep. And that's not girls being psycho, that's just girls being girls. Girls aren't just looking ahead to the next day, girls are looking down the road months and months ahead. That doesn't make us clingy and that doesn't make us crazy. That's just how we are.

Dierks Bentley has a new song called "Different for Girls" and not that all guys are the way he portrays them, but that's a beautiful representation of how it works. Girls "can't just switch it off every time they feel something". It just goes to show that girls feel it immediately. Girls feel the pain and heartache immediately while guys are going out and trying to hide the pain, but later down the road, it will catch up to them, too. It's just a different timeline.

Hearing the truth is going to hurt, regardless. But, I promise you it hurts way less when you tell it from the beginning instead of allowing it to be drug out for days and weeks and months. Because then not only is she hurt, she's wondering if everything you've said to her was a lie and that's doing more damage than it should be.

So boys, here's the deal:

TELL HER THE TRUTH.

Trying to "protect" the feelings of a girl, is actually causing more damage.

You don't have to be rude about it, and you don't have to be a jerk. Just be honest. You might feel like an awful person, but there's more respect to be given when you tell the truth from the beginning.

So man up, have some respect for the girl, and don't try to "protect" us, because you're not. We can handle it.
