We all have social media. And we all post and share our most epic, fun, and goofy times for the world to see. Why would we not want to show off those fun moments? We want everyone to think that we are happy, that our lives are full of fun, and that every moment is upbeat. But is this really the case?
Go look through your social media. I’m sure at least once you have posted an epic picture you took at a subpar party. Or that one candid of you and your best friend was just taken on a typical day of school when you both looked cute. From an outsider’s perspective, your social media game -- and your life in general -- is probably fire. But you know the truth.
You know that the party you went to last night wasn't even that great, and that you left early because of it. You know that the one time you took that picture in the snow, you were only out there for a few minutes and didn't even have that much fun because it was so cold.
You have most definitely spent time on your phone looking at other people’s social media wondering why your life can’t be as fun as theirs. I do it all the time. It’s especially hard as a freshman in college. Seeing how much fun it looks like all your friends from home are having. Why is your college experience not as fun as theirs?
Trust me when I say this: everyone is having a rough time. College is hard to adjust to and everyone struggles finding their place. Please don’t believe what everyone posts on social media. Sure, they might’ve had fun that one night they went out, but they’re still struggling to find their place just like you are. Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean it isn’t there.
I'm not saying that freshman year isn't fun, and that I haven't had any fun. Some of my social media pictures do capture some of the most fun times of my life. But others are just a facade that I have put up. Everyone does it. Everyone tries to make their life look much more fun that it is.
Stop comparing your life to what others put online. No one is going to share the bad day that they had or the failed test or the time they couldn't get out of bed. Don't believe everything social media shows you.
Everyone has a behind-the-scenes.
