Why We Still Need Feminism

It's okay, feminists are over you too.

Why We Still Need Feminism

You throw like a girl. You fight like a girl. You hit like a girl. You run like a girl. You scream like a girl. You kick like a girl. You act like a girl. Society makes it sound like a bad thing when it’s not.

Society is constantly downgrading women, and feminism is going to put an end to that. Feminism is not only about women. It’s not about hating men and blaming them for all of the problems in our society. It’s about equality.

People always think that feminism is about bringing men down, but really it’s about bringing women up, not above men, but equal to them.

The reason we need feminism is because women are seen as the weaker sex. Women are thought of as objects instead of human beings. And as much as I wish that women and men were equal, they’re not.

Even if women and men have the same educational level, women are still paid a significant about less than men. As little as 77 cents to every one dollar a man makes. Equal pay for equal work is the idea that those doing the same work should receive the same pay. It is most commonly used in the context of sexual discrimination, in relation to the gender pay gap. This is still a huge issue even if women started coming into the workforce a lot later than men. Why should women have to start at less than men just because women haven’t been working as long? I’m sorry that women weren’t allowed to work or were forced to stay home and do housework and watch the kids. But, times have changed and women want to work just as much as men do, so we are going to and we should get paid the same.

Women still deal with catcalling on a daily basis, and no, it’s not a compliment when you yell across the street telling me to smile and telling me that you’d love to “hit that”. What men fear most about going to prison, is what women fear most walking down the street.

Instead of shaming girls for their bodies and blaming them for what boys do to them, we should be teaching boys that girls are not sexual objects.

Everyone freaked out when the Disney star, Miley Cyrus, was naked everywhere, but Nick Jonas, a Disney kid as well, did the same thing, everyone was admiring him for growing up so nicely.

I always hear boys saying “not all men…” And, you’re right, not all men, but enough men for it to be a huge problem in our society. You see, when you say “not all men”, you mean “not me”. And that’s great. Thank you for being a decent human being and not perpetuating with harmful behaviors. But, just because you aren’t contributing to the problem, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

The odds of being attacked by a shark are 1 in 3,748,067, while a woman’s odds of being raped or sexually assaulted are 1 in 6. Yet, a fear of sharks is seen as rational while being cautious of men is seen as insane.

We still need feminism and feminists fighting for it because in today’s society genders are still not equal and that is absolutely ridiculous. It may be getting better and that is fantastic, don’t get me wrong, but just because it’s getting less sucky doesn’t mean it doesn’t still suck. I will continue to fight for gender equality and I will still label myself as a feminist until both men and women are equal.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
