Why I Still Love Disney

Disney will always bring out my inner child.

Why I Still Love Disney
Lauren Deady

For as long as I can remember, I have been a Disney lover and supporter. Being born in the 90’s, Disney movies were without a doubt my favorite movies and if we’re being honest here, still are. I am so confident that I will never outgrow my love for Disney, and why should I? Disney is fantastic and I will never understand why some people don’t understand. Where did the idea come from that Disney and all that it brings should be exclusively for children? I'll tell you one thing; I am not on board with that. I will forever proudly proclaim my love for all things Disney. So why is it that I continue to love Disney you ask? Allow me to explain…

First of all, the movies are just pure cinematic genius. I mean, anyone that can create a movie that people of ALL ages love is definitely worthy of applause. Quite honestly, there are very few movies I can watch over and over and over again throughout the years and never get sick of. BUT, Disney movies totally make the cut. I could STILL watch my favorite Disney flick * cough * "Beauty and the Beast" * cough * literally a million times and not get tired of it.

Let’s just get real for a second here…as a small child, I loved these movies SO MUCH that I would have the movie on while acting out the scenes simultaneously. No joke. And seriously, this was probably one of my favorite things to do. I would say my top two scenes are Cinderella serving her ugly stepsisters (these were obviously my enormous collection of stuffed animals) and Belle walking around with her book singing the song that is so creatively titled “Belle.” I’m sure my mom could attest to how often I watched and reenacted these movies and of course how fantastic I was at it. Sadly, I no longer take part in this part of the movie watching, but I will say that I definitely still watch these movies and all the other great ones that have been created. In fact, the love of Disney movies is something that one of my best friends and I were able to bond over when we first became friends. Disney- bringing people together everywhere. I am without a doubt that person that is genuinely excited when a new Disney movie is released and I regret nothing.

Walt Disney knew exactly what he was doing, and I only wish he knew what an impact his animations are still having to this day. And to think it all started with a mouse...just one mouse…

Another thing I absolutely love about Disney and its movies are the soundtracks. OMG THE SOUNDTRACKS. I have yet to hear a Disney movie soundtrack that I have not thoroughly enjoyed. Pure. Genius. You will never be able to convince me otherwise. These songs bring out the singer in all of us. Seriously, I am pretty sure it is impossible to watch the movies or listen to the songs without singing along. I would say two of my favorites are the previously mentioned “Belle” and “I’ll Make a Man Out of You.” Let me just say that Donny Osmond kills it in that song. All of these Disney songs just call you to sing along and I don’t see how people can simply not. Everything about the soundtracks is just amazing; keep it up Disney.

And how could I talk about Disney without bringing up Disney World? That place is actually the happiest place on earth, at least for me. I don’t care how long the lines are and how many people are crowding the streets that day. Just being in that place is pure bliss. Okay, well maybe not necessarily for all of the parents, but for me, going to Disney World is so exciting. I truly believe it’s just exciting for me now as it was when I was three. As many times as I’ve been there, it never gets any less fun. There is just something about Disney that makes it magical. I hope I never outgrow the desire I have to visit. And for the people tell me it’s not worth it to go to Disney Land because it’s basically the same as Disney World, I do not accept that and it is 100% worth it to me. If I could visit all of the Disney parks all over the world, I totally would.

Aside from the trips to the amusement parks, Disney has the “Disney on Ice” shows, which are also a great time of course. I am not ashamed to say I’ve been to multiple in my life and probably will go to more in the future. I mean, the magic of Disney put into an ice show? Um, yes please haha.

Lastly, my other favorite thing about Disney is that it has cruises! A Disney Cruise Line? Basically a dream come true. I can say that I have had the amazing privilege of embarking on one of these twice and they have been some of my most favorite vacations ever. It encompasses the characters, magic and level of excellency that Disney always has, but on a cruise ship. Honestly, these trips are great for everyone and not just young families. When I went, I was younger, but I would most definitely go again! There is just something about Disney that makes its vacations so special. Now, you can take your love of Disney to both land and sea!

Bottom line is, I am an adult with a child-like spirit that refuses to grow up when it comes to Disney and I would not change that for anything. Disney brings out the kid in all of us, and really, what’s life without a little magic? I will continue to revel in the magic and spirit of Disney. I am so sorry if Disney movies, soundtracks, and a trip to the Magic Kingdom do not brighten your day. I cannot imagine a world without Disney.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
