Flower Child : (noun) a young person who rejects conventional society and advocates love, peace, and simple idealistic views. Growing up in a family of people who see things as black and white, I earned the nick name of "flower child". Many of them chose to follow this set of rules and believe in this value and found themselves conforming the wants of society. As a wild child I found ways to express myself by coloring out the lines society, and my family had set for me which also allowed me to set my own limitless boundaries. I found myself disagreeing with a lot of what society told me and want to see the positive aspect to life challenges. Unfortunately society pushes back and we find ourselves struggling to break out of the normality.
We find ourselves being shaped into a cookie cutter society where we are forced to look like this model who is on the cover of vogue, have kindness like Khloe but share the same confidence as Kim. We find ourselves conforming to what social media and society wants to be like. All of this becomes the new normal and with that comes total normality which leads to a very boring life. In order to express who we truly are you must choose to find ways to express yourself. I may be a bit different from the rest but that is what makes me unique for I choose not obey to what society wants and express the true beauty that is hidden behind the mask. When society told me to stay inside and paint my nails, I played outside in the dirt. When society told me to straighten my hair, I let it flow and wore flowers in my hair. When society told me not to love who I am, I looked it straight in the eyes and said too bad because I'm a "flower child."
As a flower child, I choose to look beyond societal boundaries and set my own. I do not limit my closet to black and white, I still watch Barbie movies in my free time, I laugh at my own jokes (especially the dumb ones). I choose to look for the sun amidst the rain, and with that positivity I am able to combat anything and act as a beacon of love for those who can't quite love themselves. In order to become who we really are we must stray from trying to change ourselves in order to earn respect from society we must change society to try and respect us for who we are. Break down the barriers society has set for you, look past the boundaries, and start coloring outside of the lines, because it's ok to be different.
"Every child is a different kind of flower, all together they make this world a beautiful garden."
