When school is over and the summer break begins, the only thing you are going to miss about taking a break from classes in your friends. The people that dragged you out of bed, kept you motivated to finish those last-minute papers and spent ever day laughing with you. The summer can be rough without your besties by your side, but they are never more than a phone call away. Here are 9 tips on how to stay connected while away from each other during the summer.
1. Call Them!
A good, old-fashioned phone call can perk up any situation. When you’re not seeing your friends every day for a few months, spending a few minutes just talking can make that time breeze by. You may not be able to have a long, two-hour phone call all the time to catch up, but consistently having shorter calls can leave you with the same feeling and affect as having a long one.
2. Plan A Weekend Trip to Visit Their Hometown
These are some of the most fun trips you will ever have. You get to see your friends in their element, meet their childhood friends and spend time together away from school. I personally love getting to do these type of trips because you grow closer to your friends and have a better understanding of who they are.
3. Send Letters
People today forget about the beauty of a hand-written letter. This a chance for you to write about something going on in your life, update your friend about how you are doing, tell the other person a funny story; this is a way to keep in touch that gives you complete creative control. Draw a picture, stuff an envelope with little trinkets; do something fun and different then the norm!
4. Schedule Skype Dates
If you are the type of person who can’t do phone calls, Skype or Facetime is usually the best option for you. Watch a movie together over Skype, show your friend your house or apartment, spend that quality face to face time you’ll be missing while you’re apart for the summer months.
5. Facebook Creep Together
You know when you see that so-and-so in now dating so-and-so and you haaaaave to tell your bestie about it, that is the perfect time to get on the phone and start going through all of your friends with your bestie on the other end. This is the best way to keep up with all of your friends. You get your fix of Facebook-creeping while spending some much needed quality time with your friend on the other end of the line.
6. Text Little Updates or Appreciation Notes
I admit that I am awful at texting and don’t enjoy it, but sending a text every once in awhile to let your friends know how much you appreciate them, it brightens up their day and yours. Send them a weekly updated or maybe a memory you thought of, no matter what it is, both of you are going to feel a little bit better about being apart.
7. Snap Them Your Whole Summer
Snapchat is everyones go-to if you are under the age of 25 and what a better way to keep you friends updated in real-time! Send them snaps of what you're doing, where you're at and even use the video chat feature. Snap your way with them through the whole summer and you'll feel like there were there with you the whole time.
8. Get Lunch and Hangout
If you live within two-three hours of each other, go hangout! If you're within a short driving distance of your college friends, it only makes sense to go spend the day with them and get some lunch every now and then.
9. Share Memories on Social Media
I love getting a notification that my bff has tagged me in something because it is usually something adorable or a memory that we've made. You should be doing this! You get those warm, happy feelings, your friend feels loved and it makes both of you excited to see each other again and make more of those memories. Plus, you get to show off to everyone else how much fun you both are ;)
