When our best friends are further away than what we're used too, it can be a rough semester. Here's fifteen things you know to be true when you have a best friend that goes to a different school.
1. Separation anxiety kicks in the second one of you leaves.
Even if you said your goodbyes a mere five minutes ago, you already feel like a part of you is missing.
2. Your phone is constantly blowing up.
Group messages, Facebook tags, Snapchats: any and all social media platforms are bound to send you notifications, and they're always from your best friend. Unfortunately, they also always appear while you're in class.
3. If your phone isn't blowing up, you know they're busy.
The hectic beginnings of a new semester often take control of our lives. So you know that if you're phone isn't notifying you, they've become swamped with work.
4. You always tag them in online articles.
"THIS IS SO US! GOSH I MISS YOU!!"
"I MISS YOU MORE!"
5. You know each other's school drama.
Who else are you supposed to vent too? And don't worry. They'll always take your side.
6. Your school friends know that if your best friend is in town for the weekend, you won't be on campus.
Actually, you won't be herd from or seen at all. It's best friend date time! And you've got a lot of catching up to do.
7. Important decisions are made via text and pictures.
"Pink or blue."
"Depends on what you're going for."
"Is pink too slutty?"
"Yes."
"Then blue."
8. Your roommate is close with them.
Between you talking about them nonstop and the monthly campus visits, they're bound to get to know one another really well. Especially if you Facetime in the room nearly every night.
9. You feel horrible when you can't be there in person.
There's nothing worse that distance when your best friend's hurting.
10. You take immense pride in their school accomplishments.
"You see that world?! That's MY best friend! Look at her go!"
11. You take immense pride in them.
That new selfie on Instagram? You're the first like. And the first to comment. And the first to repost with #WCW, because seriously, they're beautiful. Plus, if you can't tell them in person how hot they look, you might as well tell the world.
12. Breaks are your favorite part of your semester.
Not only do you get home cooked meals, but you also get to spend more than two days with your best friend. And that always calls for a celebration.
13. Nothing changes.
Even if you've gone weeks without catching up, or thirty minutes without shooting them a text, you know that no matter where you left off, you'll always be able to pick right back up.
14. You always miss them.
Remember with each day that passes, you're that much closer to seeing them. Hang in there.
I love you, goobers. Hold on for one more day.
