'Star Wars:' A Secretly Feminist Movie Series

With "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" premiering this past week, there has been a ton of hype over the series. "Star Wars" is arguably the best movie series the world has seen. Starting with the first movie release in 1977, the movies have continued to be loved by generations old and new. While "Star Wars" is often considered a sci-fi series enjoyed by "nerd" males, there are plenty of female fans, including myself. Not only does it have a great plot and plenty of action to attract fans of all ages and genders, but all seven episodes are empowering for women.

"Star Wars" is full of strong, independent, bad ass women who fight for what they want. Princess Leia, Padme and plenty of female Jedi fight through battles and make decisions for societies in times of war. Padme is Queen of Naboo and later becomes a Senator for Naboo. Proving to be a fearless leader and extremely courageous during times or war, Padme is always resourceful and doesn't panic in times of war and will even uses her hair pin to help her escape from handcuffs in Episode II. She is a great figure for women who aspire to be political leaders.

Princess Leia is powerful war hero who never stops her effort to end the tyranny of the Empire and becomes the founders and leader of the Resistance. She fights against the First Order by creating strategic operations and leading all the fighters of the Resistance. Leia doesn't let any setbacks keep her from being a great leader or make her give up on her goals of stopping the Dark Side.

The new "Star Wars" episode did not disappoint and included a new powerful female main character. Rey, a scavenger from the plant of Jakku, turns out to be a star pilot, super fighter and an extremely independent as well as caring character. She doesn't stop to prove how intelligent she is during "The Force Awakens," and brings a whole new meaning to the idea of strong female. Without family and friends, she proves to be independent enough to survive on her own while learning amazing skills that eventually lead her to success. Rey proves to young women around the world that under any circumstances, you can become something amazing. Throughout the movie, she proves to be more resourceful and aware of mechanics than most males in the film. Rey without a doubt is one bad ass female that doesn't let anything stop her.

While "Star Wars" may not obviously appear to be a feminist series, it is clear that there are plenty of extremely strong female protagonists that are great idols for females around the world. "Star Wars" shows that women can also be political leaders, war heroes, and can use a weapon just as well and better than men.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
