3 Reasons We Love And Hate Spring

Spring — it’s inevitable. Yes, it’s one of the four seasons, but it is so much more than that. The connotations that have been assigned to “spring” involve rebirth, renewal, and hope. But let’s think through it a little more logically: Do the cons outweigh the pros?

Cons:

1. Pollen

For all those with allergies (*cough, cough* me), spring means being in constant fear that the little yellow seeds and dust that so innocently cover the sidewalks will get into my nose and cause me to not be able to breathe for an indeterminate amount of time. Cold season is over, so why is everyone walking around with a runny nose and itchy eyes? Why?!

2. Unpredictable Weather

In Houston, it can go from being 60 degrees one day to 80 degrees the next day in the spring. It’s beginning to get hot, but there is still the lingering cold front from time to time. So when you decide to dress cute and wear a summery skirt, it’s inevitably freezing outside.

3. The Scheduling

Spring is an incredibly busy time of year, with spring break, trying to get summer jobs/plans together, going to end-of-school-year events, etc. Every weekend has something going on, and there is often no free time to sit around and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Pros:

1. Spring Clothes

Skirts, dresses, seersucker, wedges, pastel, oh my! Spring colors are beautiful, and the softer, more delicate fabrics that come along with Spring clothing is easy on the eyes and comfortable on the body. The girls look cute in skirts and dresses and pretty linen shorts, and the guys look dapper in pastel button-downs with the sleeves rolled up. I love it.

2. Baby Animals

The whole point of spring is that it is a time of birth and newness. So what does that mean? It means tons and tons of baby animal videos on Facebook! And baby animals in fields and such!

3. Flowers

April showers bring May flowers! Spring is stereotypically known for its growth, especially of flowers, but who's complaining? Fields of flowers are beautiful to see and quite romantic when given to your significant other, dare I say. They’re also just pretty to have around, so keep that in mind if someone is having a rough day or needs a pick-me-up; flowers can be a fun friend/mom/sibling gift, too.

This may be an incredibly oversimplified list, but I think it’s safe to say that the pros outweigh the cons. Give me a cute video of little ducklings or bunny rabbits, and I can deal with the pollen for an entire season.

So whether you like spring or not, try to enjoy the season of rebirth and pastels. If you happen to see me, I'll be the one sneezing due to pollen and counting down the days until the BEST SEASON EVER, so get ready.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
