Spring In The Midwest, Explained By "Parks And Recreation"

Spring is here, and we all know what that means! Temperatures are warming up, and soon the world will be bursting with color when the trees are in full bloom. March winds bring April showers, and April showers bring May flowers – it’s something we’ve all heard and grown to expect.

But, sometimes, things don’t go as planned. Mother Nature has a mind of her own, and here in the Midwest, she often likes to send us on a weather roller coaster. It’s not rare to experience all four seasons in only a day!

Of course, our Midwestern friends from Pawnee, Indiana, know our pain all too well. So, without further ado, Leslie Knope and the rest of the Parks Department are here to explain the experience that is spring in the Midwest.

1. Finally, the snow is gone, and things seem to be warming up!

2. You've kicked winter to the curb. It's time for spring now!

3. There's even that "spring smell" in the air, which makes your day about 100x better.

4. The air is humid and rain clouds are everywhere, but you try to stay positive. It can't last forever!

5. But then ... it happens.

6. The warm weather, along with your hope, is suddenly all snatched away.

7. You're left in a state of shock.

8. And you know Mother Nature is just laughing with pity at your sadness.

9. Next thing you know, she hits you with some surprise snow showers in April.

10. You wish you could fight back somehow.

11. You wonder why you were ever happy at all.

12. This pattern continues for weeks, and you can't bear the pain. You're about to crack.

13. Just when nothing could get any worse, it's May, and everything seems like it's back to normal. Still, you're not sure if you can trust anymore. It's confusing.

14. You keep going back and forth on how you feel.

15. But then, suddenly, it's summer, and everything seems right in the world again.

16. Color is everywhere!

17. You're finally yourself.

18. What time is it? Time to -

Midwestern states, we did it! We made it through the whirlwind of emotions that is the season of spring, and the warm weather is here to stay! (Well, at least until winter.)

For now, let's have the time of our lives and let loose! Make good choices...

...But remember that summer only comes once a year, so have some well-deserved fun!

Lit'rally.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
