We all started school aspiring to be someone. Someone that dreams big about what they want to accomplish.

Maybe you have a passion for medicine and want to be a doctor. Sometimes people need someone to defend them in the court of law, so you want to be a lawyer. Then again, maybe you enjoy entertaining people, so you aspire to be a musician, an actor, or an author. I started here at SNHU, aspiring to be like my favorite authors. I’m sure that, like me, there are others that dream of being a great author. Many names come to mind, like Stephanie Meyer, E. L. James, J. K. Rowling, Stephen King, or even bigger names like William Shakespeare or Charles Dickens.

Everybody knows these big names; they have books, movies, plays. People quote lines from them all the time. But I want to forget these mega authors for a minute and introduce you to an amazing new category of authors: indie authors.

Indie authors may not have huge publishing companies promoting their books or multimillion dollar movies (yet) but they are just as amazing as the big names you know and love. They have a dream: Spending hours upon hours writing their own masterpieces, scraping every penny they have together to self-publish their books so they can share their stories with the world.

Their blood, sweat, tears, dreams and fears go into creating these books and they deserve just as much recognition as the big name authors. So without further ado, I’d like to introduce you to an amazing indie author, Kris Nacole.

I interviewed Kris and asked her to tell me a little about herself, her journey, and give me the best advice she could for those of us aspiring to be authors. I hope her words inspire you, giving you the courage and confidence to follow your dreams.

Q) First tell me a little bit about yourself.

A) My name is Kris Nacole. I'm 30 years old. I was born and raised in a small town in North Carolina, but I currently live in Knoxville, TN. I'm married with two wonderful boys. I am a 2012 graduate from Keiser University with a Master of Business Administration degree.

Q) How long have you been an author?

A) I published my first book, "Love Him Back," on August 24, 2015.

Q) How many books have you published so far?

A) Only one so far, but I have two other books coming out in 2016, "Hart of Country" and "Tate's Little Black Book." Both are romances.

Q) What was/is your inspiration to be an author?

A) I am inspired to tell stories to help people escape to a place of love and laughter. I've always been an avid reader and I love it when I'm sucked into a book and can feel myself as a part of the story, living what the characters are living. That's what I want for my readers as well. An outlet for when life gets crazy and they just want to relax and escape reality for a little while.

Q) What advice would you give to someone that is aspiring to become an author as well?

A) I’m going to try not to get too mushy here. I guess the one thing I would tell aspiring writers out there, is: Never let anyone stand in your way. Taking the first step is the hardest. It is scary stepping into the unknown and opening yourself up for the world to peer into your mind. Be yourself, be proud of your work, and never let anyone tell you that you can’t do it. A few people tried to discourage me from writing and thought I would never actually do it let alone succeed. I proved them wrong as I made it to the top 100 list in military romance within three weeks of publishing. It can be done. It is hard work. You may cry, want to give up, and doubt yourself at times, but that’s normal. Keep pushing forward and write from your heart. Let the story tell itself. You are good enough and can do this. The feeling you get when you hit publish and hold your book in your hands for the first time makes all the struggles worth it. Dream big. Believe in yourself. Inspire others.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
