Spotify. The most popular music streaming application and program that is used by everyone in the world. Why is Spotify so popular and how exactly are they the biggest enterprise when streaming music? What effect has Spotify created in our society and our lives?

Spotify runs on a platform that is based on a torrenting consumer behavior. This person to person sharing idea is suitable for our consumer lifestyle of having a library of music that is readily available to us. Spotify gives us an infinite library which is exactly what we, the public, want and a subscription to Spotify gives us what we want. This is where and why Spotify is thriving and extremely successful in the entertainment business.

Personally, I believe that idea and need for an infinite library that we can access was an extremely brilliant tactic to gather profit. Because of the infinite library, I subscribed to Spotify and having access to any song without going through ads and stops is the best decision. Because of this demand for an infinite library, other music streaming platforms are planning in the same direction as Spotify. For example, Apple Music has the same idea where you play for a subscription and you can add music to your library making it once again, an infinite library that everyone wants and desires.

I think that Spotify has also changed our music culture in general. With Spotify users being able to make their playlists public, people can follow other people’s playlists and works and it makes the music culture very interconnected with each other. It also changed our music culture into very divided groups because each playlist usually consists of a certain type or genre of songs and everything has become divided, but at the same time, extremely accessible for everyone to listen to what they want with an infinite library.

The music culture brought up by Spotify really changed our culture and society based on media overall. We feel, at the same time, disconnected and connected, due to the many digital platforms yet the one media public space that it is performed on. The workings and goals of Spotify being able to give us an infinite library makes everything so easy to navigate and achieve but having to pay the subscription fee. Running from an old idea of torrenting, Spotify has reached its peak in our world today, creating an infinite library with the mere fee of a couple dollars a month. Spotify only represents a very small portion of the media world, however, I know that it has created a huge impact because I feel and see the effects of a connected yet disconnected society today.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
