Spooky Things To Do During COVID

This year, all of our lives look a lot different. That is a given. We are in the middle of a worldwide pandemic and early voting has been taking over our communities because as a community we have a lot to say right now. We did not expect our year to look like this. Now, the holidays are coming up and it has been hard for me to get into the spirit. I have been thinking of some different ways to get into the spirit of Halloween coming up next week and I am hoping this momentum will lead into a memorable holiday season!

1. Go to a pumpkin patch.

This is such a basic idea but it never fails. Many people make this a tradition during this season and I think there is no reason it should not continue. As long as you are remaining safe and following the COVID guidelines, I see no issue in enjoying a pumpkin patch with your friends. Gives you a chance to get out of the house and do something for once during this pandemic. Maybe even get some cute pictures!

2. Halloween movie night.

Movie nights are the best kind of nights. Get a small group of your friends together, pop the popcorn, and watch as many of your favorite Halloween movies you can before passing out on the couch! Nothing is better than that. You could even go as full out as getting some Halloween candy and wine! Make it a fun night with your friends and who does not love a movie marathon?!

3. Pumpkin carving.

I do not know about you, but I have not really had much experience in pumpkin carving but I have heard that it is so fun! It is messy, but always fun! When being stuck inside most of the time, this is something you could even do in the safety of your home. You might even surprise yourself with how good yours turns out.

4. Decorate to the MAX!

What better way to get into the spirit than decorating? I have seen some people go FULL OUT with their holiday decorations and I could not think of a better way to get yourself in the right mindset. I remember walking into my mom's best friend's house and being in absolute awe of their house and how it was decorated. I even said, "I forgot how close it was to Halloween." Her house immediately put me into the spirit and I felt it!

5. Go costume shopping!

I do not think COVID should stop people from celebrating Halloween. Do not let it crush your spirit!!! Go out and get the best costume ever! Who knows, maybe a small group of friends will get together for Halloween or maybe just do a photoshoot because Halloween is one of the best holidays! Who knows, maybe you can even incorporate a mask into your costume! Dressing up is the best part and I do not think we should let COVID take that away!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
