Joining a sorority is arguably one of the best parts of college. Leaving home and starting all over can be hard for a lot of girls, and joining a sorority can fill the void of leaving family at home. Sorority sisters are all unique and intelligent and are always there to help another sister when times get hard. Sorority sisters are better than biological sisters because they are a second family that would go through great lengths to make sure another sister succeeds.
Media representations of sororities have skewed the image of what real sorority life is like. Here at Quinnipiac, sorority girls are far from the "dumb blondes" that movies portray sorority girls to be. On average, students involved in QU's Greek life have higher GPA's than those not involved. This is most likely because there is always a sorority sister there to help you study or to tutor you in a class they've already taken. Scholarship always comes first for QU Greek life.
Sorority sisters are better than biological sisters because, for some girls, sorority sisters might be their only sisters. In a sorority, there is always someone there that is willing to get lunch with you or to grab a mani/pedi with you.
From my personal experience in QU's newest sorority, Gamma Phi Beta, each one of my sisters is kind and compassionate. They will go out of their way to introduce themselves and are eager to make everyone feel welcome and included. Together we want to work to build each other up and inspire the highest type of womanhood. This is present in our philanthropy, Building Strong Girls and our philanthropic partner, Girls on the Run, as well as in our everyday lives. Even though we might not know all 170 of our sisters yet, I know I have great women by my side.
Although biological sisters are great, there is a special bond between a girl and her sorority sisters that is often inexplicable to non-greeks. The girls you meet in a sorority are there for you the rest of your life. They will be there for you in times of sadness and celebration and will know you better than anyone else.
