Sorority recruitment is a fun, exciting, and nerve-wracking time of the semester, and I'm not just talking about for the PNMs.
As a sister, it is a time full of laughter, tears, sweat, and sorority songs and chants you'll be singing in your sleep. Here's a glimpse into recruitment from the srat girl's POV, as told by the characters of the classic comedy White Chicks.
1. Right when the recruitment chair announces the dress code for each day of recruitment, you and your friends rush to the mall.
Sure, you already have a perfectly fine black dress, but you have to buy a new, nicer one. Gotta impress the PNMs!
2. Even though you spent hours getting ready this morning, you look around the room at your beautiful sisters like:
Each new member class seems to get prettier and prettier.
3. Hearing the PNMs outside the door, it finally sets in that recruitment is actually here!
You can't wait to get to know some potential new members of your sorority. Little do you know, the small talk gets quite redundant after a couple of rounds.
4. As the doors open, you and your sisters put on your smiles and begin your show-stopping performance of clapping, singing, and grabbing girls by the arm.
To be honest, we sound like a cult chanting our songs to the nervous PNMs.
5. When a PNM quickly becomes your rush crush.
Seriously, I need you. THIS SORORITY NEEDS YOU.
6. When a PNM brings up the forbidden topics of drinking, partying, and frats.
Girl, didn't your Rho Chi tell you to not bring this up? Major no-no.
7. When you have to shove food down your throat between each round.
With no breaks all day, we look like savages scarfing our food down during every 5-minute break that we have.
8. By the end of the day, you feel like you're about to explode.
Your shoes hurt, your jeans are uncomfortable, your back is breaking from standing all day, and you just want to go home and sleep.
8. You're finally home, and can take off all of the makeup you spent hours putting on this morning.
Can't wait to put it all on again tomorrow morning!
9. When you come back the next day and see your rush crush isn't coming back to your room.
You already pictured this girl in your sorority, including who her big would be and what e-board position she'd be perfect for, and now she's gone.
10. It's finally bid day, and you're all so excited to welcome your new sisters into your chapter!
Although you lost a bit of your sanity, the recruitment week is finally over, and now it's time to celebrate!
All in all, the stress of this tiresome week was more than worth it, after welcoming a beautiful new member class into your sorority! These girls will add to your trees, become some of your best friends, and rise as the future leaders of your chapter.
