10 Life Saving Sorority Recruitment Tips

Year after year, girls dress up and set out in search of the perfect sisterhood. The time is quickly approaching as sororities across the nation prepare to recruit new members and potential new members prepare to make the best impression they possibly can. Although this is a great experience, it is also extremely stressful. In the end, the long days and endless stress are worth it, however, here are some tips to help you in the mean time.

1. Dress for your style.

I don't mean that you should wear track shorts and a T-shirt because that is your uniform. What I mean is that just because a certain type of dress is popular or what you think all the other girls wear does not mean that you have to. You have your own personal style and that is part of who you are. Don't be afraid to let that show.

2. Use your resources.

You are going to be put into a group with other potential new members and you will be given a Pi Chi/Rho Gamma/Rho Chi -- some sort of recruitment counselor. Use them. Those girls will become your friends because only they will be experiencing all that you are with you. Use your Pi Chis as well, they are there for you to ask any question, vent, and help make the tough decisions. Even if you are extremely shy (me) you should definitely take advantage of the gift you've been given.

3. Listen to what the sororities are saying.

You will hear more than you could ever imagine on sisterhood, philanthropies and everything in between. Although you might be exhausted, overheated and starving, the things these sororities are important and should be considered when making your decision. It will be a little difficult to consider these things if you didn't listen to a single thing.

4. But don't listen to gossip.

Let's be real, with loads of girls comes gossip. Chances are you will hear gossip on which sororities are "best," which ones aren't and so much more. I'll go ahead and let you in on a little secret. The best sorority is the one that is best for you. The reason there is so many is because it is not a one size fits all situation. Do yourself a favor, just tune that out. It's pointless anyways.

5. Be yourself.

Your sorority should be a home that you can be unapologetically yourself. Throughout the recruitment process it is so important to stay true to who you are until you find the sorority that makes you feel completely comfortable.

6. Follow your heart.

This is something you get to be selfish about so take that opportunity and run with it. Find the sisterhood where you feel your heart belongs and go there. And if you're having trouble figuring out what your heart is saying, go talk with a Pi Chi.

7. Have fun.

This is supposed to be one of the best times of your college years. It will be stressful but the reward of sisterhood is worth it. Enjoy this time and look forward to all it will bring in your future.

8. Remember that everything will work out.

This time will not be perfect. You might find out the sorority of your dreams isn't the one you want after all or get dropped from one that you had your heart set on. Just remember that all of this is just leading you to where you belong and everything will work out in the end.

9. Wear sweatproof or waterproof makeup.

Go ahead and trust me on this one. Sweat and tears will most likely occur. Pictures will most definitely occur so let's make sure they're ones that won't make us cringe every time we see them.

10. Get excited for bid day.

This time will be stressful but bid day will be here before you know it and you will have a blast. So get ready to rep your new letters and hug strangers who will be family before you know it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
