Most sororities have a system where they choose girls to fill the house. Some girls willingly oblige to move in, while others have to be drawn to fill the empty slots. But for me, I chose to move into my sorority house as soon I accepted my bid and it was easily one of the best decisions I have made.
There are many perks to living in a house full of girls. For me these perks were meeting my roommate (who turned out to be my soul sister), there are always goodies in the kitchen, and you have plenty of shoulders to lean on if you need them.
1. Sharing is caring: Accordingly, you have at least 30 closets to choose from for those spur-of the-moment dates that you were not prepared for. This is one of the best perks in my opinion because it saves you from spending money and wasting time on shopping.
2. Study buddies: Chances are someone in the house is taking the same class as you or has taken it before and can help you out. Plus there is someone always there when you dont want to study alone.
3. Fooooood: Easily the best perk. You know those after-chapter snacks that are handed out but there is a ton extra, Yeah, they're yours now. You will always find some kind of goodies in the kitchen. Whether it's baked goods a sister made, or sweets that another organization dropped off, the kitchen is always stocked with great study snacks. Also, there is always someone in the house ready for a cookout run at odd hours of the night.
4. Convenience: Especially when there are meetings in the house. It is so easy to just walk down the hall to the chapter room rather than driving to the house and trying to find parking. Living in oak lane is also a huge perk because you have easy access to walk to and from the other Greek houses.
5. People who care: Whenever you have a problem, there are 30 women in the house willing to sit and listen to you sob over the latest boy in your life. Your sisters will help you through everything and it is amazing to have them so close constantly for times like these. This is the time to get extremely close with your pledge class and make good connections that will last a life time.
Ultimately, living in the house is basically a huge sleepover with your sisters. I am so grateful for the time that I was able to live in the house and get to know the older sisters better. Take advantage of the opportunity for a spot living in the house, trust me, you'll thank me later.
