Exactly three months ago (August 28), I was sitting in the civic center, anxiously awaiting the moment where I would open up that envelope and pull out the card that would tell me where I'd be spending the next four years. In the week leading up to that moment, I had been through hell and back. Running from one side of campus to the other in the August heat, having the same conversations 10 times a day, and being bit by a spider the day before I had to wear heels were not things I had expected to happen to me. But I told myself, whatever happens, happens, and you will end up where you are supposed to be.
Waiting to look at that bid card felt like a lifetime, when in reality it was only about an hour or so. As soon as my recruitment counselor let us open our eyes, my brain seemed to shut down. I couldn't even read my card, but I was shaking with excitement. When my eyes finally decided to work, I saw three words: Delta Delta Delta. The happiness that rushed through me was like no other. I was ecstatic to be able to run home to these amazing women, some of whom I had already formed a bond with.
Now, three crazy months later, I feel that I am even more lucky to call Tri Delta my home. I never thought I would be able to just walk in and sit on the couch next to people I didn't even know, yet I do it all the time. Each and every day, my sisters continue to amaze me. They are smart, beautiful, and talented, and I am proud to be associated with them.
One of the best things that has come out of joining a sorority is the relationships. I have had the opportunity to meet so many people, whether they are in my sorority or one of the many others, or if they are in a fraternity we are paired with for a game day or homecoming. Being in Greek life has enabled me to make friendships I might not have made otherwise.
Something I have always loved being a part of is community service, especially for children. When I found out that Tri Delt's philanthropy is St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, I was beyond happy. Every sister is so passionate about the work we do, and it brings joy to my heart to see all of the hard work selflessly put into this amazing cause.
Coming into college, I knew I wanted to find a place where I would always have someone in my corner who I could talk, cry, or vent to. I found that in a sorority. Greek life is so much more than theme parties, formals, and tailgates. We are a family and we all support each other, inside and out of our respective organizations.
I never knew how much being in a sorority would change my life, but I am so glad it has. I have already become a better person because of it, and I can't wait to see where the future takes me.
