Sorority Girls: How Ready Are You For Recruitment?

1. How important is recruitment to you?

a. Why is this even a thing? Why can’t we just ask cool people to join our chapter whenever?

b. It’s kind of a big deal, but I just don’t want to get into fights over anyone. No girl is that important.

c. Pretty important. We want girls to make this chapter the best it can be, and I’m willing to push for the girls I think will make it that way.

d. It’s the lifeblood of the fraternity. Recruitment is everything to me.

2. How prepped is your recruitment wardrobe?

a. Wait, we just have to wear the T-shirts they give us, right?

b. I’ve looked over what our recruitment chair wants us to wear but have I made actual moves to put this all together? That’s a no go.

c. Honestly, I’ve been to like four different stores for recruitment shoes. Are they really that hard to find?

d. I have everything lined up in my closet already, complete with perfectly paired accessories.

3. How much do you know about your chapter?

a. I mean, I know our songs and our Founder’s Day—is that good enough?

b. My lullaby is our recruitment song, not by choice but more by required preparation.

c. I know everything any normal person would know from when our house opened on this campus to who our founding members are, but don’t ask me historical dates, because who actually cares what day of the week construction began on the first sorority house?

d. I win every chapter trivia, know fun facts about my sorority within our chapter and nationally, and plan on being the most active alumni when I graduate.

4. Have you been through recruitment before?

a. Yes, but only as a new recruit. It can’t be that much more stressful from this side, right?

b. Yep, and I’m still nervous that I’ll say the wrong thing or accidentally sweat through my Open House tee.

c. Obviously! I love recruitment for showing new girls how great it is to be in a sorority, but my favorite part of recruitment is on Bid Day when it’s over and we have our girls.

d. Duh, I’ve brought new life into this chapter over the years and intend on continuing the tradition this year as well.

5. How many potential new member’s (PNM’s) social media accounts have you stalked?

a. None, of course!

b. Only people from my high school and a couple legacies. I mean, I’m not a complete creep.

c. My fair share, but that’s just part of the recruitment fun, right?

d. I lost count at 20…Whoops!

Mostly As: Just Not Into It

You see no real point in recruiting and think it’s all a little much. You are actually considering studying abroad in the fall just to get out of recruitment, or at least signing up for tech duty the whole time because they at least get to dress comfortably. Chin up, girl! Just know that you’ll be getting some great girls to join your house at the end of all this.

Mostly Bs: Chilled Yet Thrilled

You’re excited for recruitment, but most importantly, you're excited for new members to become a part of your sorority. Although your laid-back stance on recruitment may seem like you don’t care as much, you want what’s best for your chapter and are willing to sing songs and smile in heels for 10 hours to do it.

Mostly Cs: Seasoned Vet

This isn’t your first recruitment rodeo. You know what to say and what not to say, and you know who will fit best in your chapter. Even though you may not seem as peppy as some of the other recruiters, you are willing to fight for the girls you believe in, which shows how much you care.

Mostly Ds: Die Hard Recruiter

You are the recruitment chair from the past, present, or future. You live and breathe all that is recruitment because it's the future of your sorority in your hands and you want all the best possible girls to make your chapter the best it can be. Even if it means practicing house tour after house tour, you are up for the challenge and ready to kick recruitment’s butt. Just make sure not to get too excited; you don’t want PNM’s thinking your eyes are that excited all the time.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
