Transitioning from high school to college was a big and scary change for me. Luckily I had a group of friends from high school that were also going to FSU. Everyone says "you find your close friends in college," but I wasn’t sure how this was going to happen. My initial idea was to join a sorority.
At first, I was hesitant, but then I figured it was an experience I couldn’t pass up. so I packed up my belongings and moved in a week early start recruitment week. A week later, I found my home away from home at my sorority. An integral part of a sorority is finding your "big." A "big" is an older sister that acts as your role model and someone you can go to for anything. Little did I know you would be more than just that.
Stress had been running through my body the week leading up to big/little reveal. I was anxious but also excited because I've never had a sister, only a younger brother. Every day leading up to the reveal, the new members received gifts from their big. I had no clue who she was but all I did know was that the anticipation was killing me!
The day finally came where I would find out my infamous big. Running to my big on big/little reveal day was the exact moment in my life I gained one of my best friends. We clicked right away and I can’t picture anyone different to have ran to.
From going to meals at our sorority house together to taking a thousand and one pictures before happy hour, we’ve been through a lot in just this past year. If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t have met my “fam” which is the best group of friends I could ever ask for. We all bonded so well and know just how to make each other laugh. They all made my first year in college one I will never forget.
Not only is she one of my best friends, but she really is like my big sister. I can go to her for anything and I know she’ll be there for me no matter what hour of the day. She gives the best advice and isn’t afraid to be who she is. She’s someone I can look up to and count on even after she graduates. Luckily, I have one more semester with her but after that, I don’t know how I’ll manage to survive without my big. She truly is a match made in heaven.
