Pretty much every person that joins a sorority does so in hopes of finding their “home away from home.” You do find your home away from home, but you also find your sorority family. I’m not just talking about your Big, GBig, and so on. I’m talking about the people you go to the house with everyday for lunch and drive around everywhere in your car like a soccer mom. These people that you are spending everyday with because of your sorority and eventually become your family. The friends I have surrounded myself with, including my Big, have most definitely become my family. Here’s just a few ways to tell you’ve found your family in your sorority.
- You go on late night food runs together. Me and my Big make food runs to Sonic way more than we should. Going to eat together at ungodly hours forges a bond like no other.
- You don't go to the sorority house without each other. Me and my friends are constantly texting each other asking when we’re going to the house. We all meet up or ride together to the house so that we don’t have to go alone.
- You sleep at each others houses/dorms. Everyone knows that dorms are not a large space, but me and my friends would sleep in each others dorm beds all the time. If you love each other enough to share your little twin bed than you are definitely classified as family.
- You can go to them for anything. Before my Big was even my Big, I went to her house crying one night because the guy I was dating at the time and I had broken up. She fed me Chinese food while I cried. Sororities give you tons of friends like this, comprised of over 200 girls who are wiling to back you up no matter what.
- You have a group message. A group message is a sign of a group of friends that are inseparable. It’s constantly getting blown up about so many different things, especially when you're trying to sleep.
- You plan your naps accordingly. Me and my friends try to take our naps around the same time so we can do everything else we need to that day and then hang out. Planning your sleeping patterns so that you can do something that night means you’ve found someone who’s going to be around forever.
- You drive them everywhere, and vice versa. As a Freshman I was one of my only friends to have a car with me in college. That meant I was constantly picking up my friends and driving them anywhere they wanted to go. You have no choice but to become super close when you have a four seater and are squeezing ten people in there.
My sorority has given me the people I want in my life forever. The friends I’ve made have become my family and we literally do everything together. Joining a sorority will definitely change your life for the better. I know it's changed mine.
