When you look at today's music industry you find songs to fall under a few major categories. One of the categories is break-ups/relationships. Everyone has had their heart hurt because of these two things at least once in their life. Pop star Ariana Grande has given us a relatable amount of songs when it comes to relationships, the songs are as followed:
1. Honeymoon Avenue
One of my personal favorites, it’s about a relationship falling apart right before your eyes and you try to save what’s left. Throughout the song she compares the relationship to be “stuck in traffic” that they’re not on Honeymoon Avenue anymore. She just wants the relationship to be back to how it was in the beginning, but it won’t happen if he doesn’t try too.
“I feel like my heart is stuck in bumper to bumper traffic I’m under pressure cause I can’t have you the way that I was let’s just go back to the way it was”
2. Tattooed Heart
One of her slower songs, Ariana sings about love. How there’s no need for “games” to be played or money, nothing except the reciprocated feelings for each other. Love isn’t too fool each other or to impress someone. It’s that rush in your chest or that warmth in your heart when you see them. Even if it only lasts a few days or a long time, love is something you’ll want to feel.
“You don’t need a lot of money honey you don’t have to play no games all I need is all your loving, to get the blood rushing through my veins”
3. You'll Never Know
This one’s about a past relationship where that significant other didn’t express their feelings in the past, but now that you’re in a new relationship they start showing their true feelings. Of course it’s too late for them to come back, but they do it anyway.
“You’ll never know what we could’ve been if you would’ve shown you’re way back then”
4. Better Left Unsaid
A relationship that didn’t turn out right, and when you miss that person but you can’t tell them how you feel since you know have you have to get over them since they're toxic.
“I told you once get out of my life, I don’t need you I’ll be alright, but some things are better left unsaid”
5. Just a Little Bit of Your Heart
First of all, this song was written by Harry Styles from One Direction. This one’s about a relationship where one of the partners is a cheater. She knows he cheats, but is still in love with them. She’s willing to share his heart with others because she loves him that much.
“Just a little bit of your heart is all I want”
6. My Everything
This song is about the realization of how important that significant other was and realizing it after the relationship ended. Throughout the song she sings “He wasn’t my everything till we were nothing”, at first she saw him as a person to keep her company, but once she lost him she realized how much he meant to her. You never realize what you have until its gone.
“Now that he’s gone my heart is missing something, so it’s time to push my pride away, cause you are, you are, my everything”
7. One Last Time
A relationship where she was the one who was unfaithful. She knows she doesn’t deserve to get back with her ex, but she just wishes she could spend one more night with him to say goodbye for good.
“So one last time, I need to be the one who takes you home”
8. Cadillac Song
Another personal favorite of mine and most relatable to me. It’s about a relationship that ended abruptly and out of nowhere. While they were together everything was perfect and easy, and she believed they would end up getting married. Then out of nowhere it ended, but she will always still love him and think about how things used to be.
“Who knew that kiss was the last one, I never thought we would change”
9. Too Close
A friendship where she’s in love with him and wonders if he feels the same way. She feels weird that she’s in love with her friend, but wonders what his reaction would be if she told him she is.
“I’ve been thinking about you, boy its killing me and I’ve got to let you know”
10. Only 1
A relationship where she feels her boyfriend is out of her league, and knows that there are other girls competing with her for him. She’s completely love-struck and believes she isn’t the only girl for him. It’s too good to be true
“We’re living in a fairytale no malice and no lies, it’s too hard to believe, that the love you have inside is only mine, that’s how I know I can’t be your only one”
11. Best Mistake
A past relationship that ended because they started drifting away from each other, but no matter what happens she will always love him. Even though they weren’t meant for each other, it still wasn’t a waste of time.
“Cause even if the water dries up, and the moon stops shining, stars fall and the world goes blind boy you know I’ll be saving my love for you, cause you’re the best mistake I’ve ever made”
12. Adore
This one is about a love-struck girl who can’t stop thinking about her love and wonders if she’s on his mind too. Her love for him is so deep, but she doesn’t want to rush things with him. She doesn’t care if they stay in or go out, just as long as they are together. Even if he isn’t ready to give her his love, she will give him anything he wants. When she sings “Don’t pretend you’re just a friend” it means, he only sees her as a friend, but she can never call him one because of how much in love she is.
“I’ll give you everything, you don’t owe me anything”
13. Love Me Harder
This song is pretty much self explanatory, Ariana sings about her lover needing to give her more attention to keep her interested.
